As a gamer, I still have no idea why I would want this over any if it's competitors, or why would I want it over a PSV, am I missing something?

Why is this a big deal, it's just a tablet right? That's serious question, I have not formed an opinion.

Edit: "it's also vital to note that the WinRT variant won't ship with a 1080p panel, but a paltry 1366 x 768" - engadget

Is your PC literally only used for "core" (my emphasis) gaming? As such, then no portable device is probably justified to you as they don't do that.. yet.

As a general purpose laptop/tablet this is perfect. Especially with its obvious eventual massive integration with a desktop PC and for those with Xbox.

Does it take in CD's and DVD's?

USB 2 supported.  So ext DVD yes.

Note: on the Pro only.  RT would not be binary compatible, I don't think.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm sticking with my laptop and IPad 3 then. If they had CD/DVD compatability fully integrated this would've been a definite buy. Plus...I already have a case for my IPad 3 that turns it into a Laptop.

Suggested retail pricing will be announced closer to availability and is expected to be competitive with a comparable ARM tablet or Intel Ultrabook-class PC. OEMs will have cost and feature parity on Windows 8 and Windows RT.

What does that mean? (the bolded)

I think it means both versions of windows (8 and RT) will have the same price and features sets for different editions*

*(by different editions I mean like the Home, Professional, and Ultimate editions of Win7).

No, that isn't what it means, as Windows 8 for tablets is Windows 8 RT (ARM) or Pro (x64).

What it means is that OEMs will have cost and feature parity for their tablets featuring Windows 8 and Windows RT, as compared to what Microsoft is offering with the Surface tablets.  In other words, you should expect similar models coming from other OEM partners.

Windows 8 comes in two retail flavors, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro.  These two mirror Windows XP offerings of Home and Professional, more so than Windows Vista or Windows 7 offerings.  In addition to the two retail offerings will be Windows 8 RT (OEM for ARM processors), Windows 8 Enterprise, and Windows 8 Server.  The latter two being available to Software Assurance clients or through OEMs.

Will wait and see. Almost never a good idea to buy the 1st gen stuff. The bugs of hardware and software are usually fleshed out by 2nd or 3rd iteration. Sometimes though one just needs to have it.

Looks cool, but I still like what Asus is doing in the tab market more than any company.

Thanks guys, but what do they mean by the "cost" part of the quote?  Can MS set the MSRP of OEM versions of the tablet?  Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose.

Looks amazing, early reportz are overwhelmingly positive as well. As long as its priced well ill buy it

Just that pricing will be comparable.  It doesn't mean it will be the same, but a Windows 8 RT tablet with a 32GB SSD will likely be about the same price across the board.  OEMS may offer different features, which may increase or decrease the price, but generally speaking they will be about the same price.  And Windows 8 Pro tablets should be about the same as similarly equipped Ultrabooks.
