Forums - Sony - WHAT I REALISTICALLY EXPECT AND WANT ON PS4

So, we're all betting on Uncharted 4 being Naughty Dog Team 1's project then? Somehow, I don't see it.

Given the history of how Naughty Dog operates, the talented people there etc., I can't see them wanting to stay on just one project. Even with the runaway success that UC was, I think they'll move onto something else. Maybe give Uncharted to Bend or Team 2 or something.

Unless Sony forces them to of course, idk.

I think the whole two teams structure that sony have implimented is a sign that UC series will continue. One team can work on UC while the other can focus on a new IP. They can always shift members so they will not get burned out on one series as well. Now since GG also has two teams I think it will be the same over there. KZ + new IPs...or maybe two new IPs

oh and on a personal note I do HOPE they keep making Uncharted games..I'm a big fan..of both the SP and MP :D

and from the company's pov they NEED to keep building these IPs because it helps the identity of the brand as well as have higher sales potential

WHAT I REALISTICALLY EXPECT AND WANT ON PS4

  • PlayStation 4 Launch - Fall/Holidays 2013 dont think it will release WW next fal
  • $400 price at launch thats good starting price but i never cared for that
  • Uncharted 4, Fall/Holidays 2014
  • God of War IV, 2015.
  • The Last of Us 2 - The Last of Us looks way too awesome to not have a sequel
  • Gran Turismo 6, preferably a Launch title, but 2015 at the very latest. Polyphony has had since late-2010 to work on the next game in the series. They screwed up with delaying GT5 so many times, they owe it to fans to release GT6 as soon as possible on the next system. GT6 as a Launch title would be PS4’s killer app. I won’t get my hopes up though. Polyphony obviously doesn’t have their act together. i just want more western cars and drag racing
  • Little Big Planet 3, in 3D. Creating 3D gameplay and levels seems like the next logical step in the series. While Media Molecule said they’re finished with the series, it sells so many units and is one of Sonys flagship titles so I don’t see them dropping it. Maybe an outside developer will handle it like they’re doing with LBP Karting
  • New IP from Guerrilla Games. They have confirmed their 2nd studio is working on a new IP. I wouldn’t mind a New IP from their 1st studio too, but I would welcome Killzone 4 as well. TPS want to see what they can do with that genre
  • New IP or InFamous 3 from Sucker Punch. InFamous was alright, but sales were only decent. They can do better. Although seeing Cole riding around a new city, zapping people, would be a nice way to show off a new systems graphics.
  • New IP from Evolution Studios. Motorstorm:Apocalypse was a huge waste of time and money. It sold terribly, and as good as the series was… It is basically dead. They must start a new franchise.
  • New IP from Media Molecule. They’ve already said they’re done with LBP and are working on a New IP.
  • New IP from Sony Santa Monica. They confirmed their 2nd team is working on something completely separate from GOW. In the job postings, they were looking for people that had experience working on open-world games.
  • More of the same from Quantic Dream, with Sony possibly acquiring the studio.

Less realistic but still possible….

  • PaRappa DaRappa Reboot - A PlayStation 1 Original. He’s in the new All-stars Battle Royale. This game really started the whole music genre that you see games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero copying. Would it really be that hard for Sony to reboot this franchise? No. They could outsource it to an outside developer, and it wouldn’t take long to develop, nor would it take a lot of money. This game would fit in well with todays casuals, while also appealing to old school gamers.
  • Metal Gear Solid Exclusive - I dont care if it’s MGS 5, or some sort of prequel. Something every Sony system has had is a MGS exclusive. Kojima has also talked a lot about ‘transferring’ between console and handheld, so maybe he does something that ties in VITA and PS4. Though he also mentioned a big feature in his new Fox Engine is the ease of porting games from system to system, which makes the exclusivity less probable. fully agreed
  • Exclusive New IP from Insomniac. If their multi platform experiment Overstrike fails to sell, they might see that its better to go back to being exclusive. I know they’re a studio that has 2 teams. Perhaps one team can do multi plats, while the other team makes a deal with Sony for a new exclusive.
  • CAPCOM vs. PlayStation fighting game. Why not? I personally would love to see this. I never thought they would do a SF x Tekken game, but they did. I never thought I’d see a PlayStation Smash Bros game, but its happening. If those could happen I don’t see why this couldn’t. It’s not likely to ever happen, it’s just something I would really like to see.
  • Twisted Metal with proper online functionality, and Marketing. Those are the only 2 things that screwed up the TM reboot for me. It probably won’t happen because David Jaffe has left Eat Sleep Play, and Twisted on PS3 hasn’t sold as well as many expected.
  • Top Notch PlayStation Engine. Big 1st party devs like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla use their own engines, but why not develop an engine for the lower-end devs to use? With all the outsourcing that Sony does, it would make sense for them to make a powerful engine and lend it to those developers. Look at how much the Unreal Engine helped games like BioShock and Batman Arkham Asylum. It cut down their development time and costs, and they turned into great games. Developers wouldn’t have to spend time creating their own engines from scratch, which means more games in the long run. If 3rd parties like Epic, Dice, Square, and Crytek can develop massive engines, why doesn’t Sony? They would get much more use out of it than most of those companies.

to add

a new controller design

superior multiplats dont care bout who gets dlc first

web browser option while in game

custom soundtracks for all games

ability to install games fully on HDD whats the point of having big HDD on consoles

something for load times ive been gaming for a long time now pre nes and since ps1 the load times dont seem like they have been getting better

They were FORCED to stop making Crash Bandicoot since they didnt own the IP.

Jak 2 and 3 had poor and declining sales, so it made sense to start a new IP on PS3.

It absolutely would not make sense to drop Uncharted at this point. Its become a big success and sells well (6 million).

For Sony it wouldn't make sense, sure, but look what happened with the previous two transitions:

Crash -> Jak.  Changed from a 3D platformer in an essentially 3D field to a fully 3D, expansive, open world, critically acclaimed masterpiece.  They could tell a better story, create more exciting worlds, introduce etc.

Jak -> Uncharted.  Changed from a teenage-esque platformer with shooting elements to a fully fledged third person shooter with a grown up, exciting story with interesting set pieces, which just made an incredibly cinematic game.

I don't like overhyping companies, but I want to see what Naughty Dog can do next.  I genuinely believe that they can expand their games even further if they're not bound in by having to cater to a pre-existing franchise.

They will make Uncharted 4 first, and then move on to a new franchise.

Your reason for it is a horrible one. Some stories are best left told with a single book. A sequal simply because the last one did well/was good is a big problem with this industry.

I will tell if I would like to see a sequel to TLOU after I play it :P if it ends perfectly then screw sequels..use what you learned from it and create a new IP..ND seems to thrive on that way of thinking

Look at the Title of the thread. It's about what I expect on PS4. Not what super hardcore gamers like yourself think are right and wrong with the industry.

The fact is if TLOU sells 3+million, there's no way there won't be a sequel.

The only thing that will happen is the release!
