Absolutely no chance to beat Halo 3 lifetime (as games become ever more frontloaded 1st week sales are a different thing. I don't care.). Anybody who thinks this can outsell Halo 3 is fooling himself.

First we have the generation effect. It comes very late in a generation.

Then we have the competition (which I think is the reason for the slight downward trend of Halo games). Call of Duty will steal more sales from Halo 4 than what it did from Halo 3.

And thirdly, while the game looks graphically very nice (but so does the competition) I see no other reasons for it to be perceived as better than Halo 3. It's impossible to beat that 94% Meta of Halo 3 (for comparison Reach got 91%).

9 million lifetime.

i was going to say halo 3 had to compete against the orange box but it seems like that didn't sell even close to what i thought...btw i did not see a downward trend yet. odst was something totally different with no real new multi-player and reach was something different as well. it could be that trend and we will see it when halo 4 will release but i don't think reach or odst are good indicators.

At least they're some indicators. Plus the Combat Evolved remake had abysmal sales which I was very disappointed in.

abysmal sales?  for a remake of a game that people could already play on the 360 due to MS actually having decent backward compatability... are you kidding me?

But they put lots of resources in that game. It must be the best remake ever made.

This is not stealth bashing Halo but I expected it to sell 4 million. Maybe I was naive but I wanted it to sell 4 million.
(I didn't know about the BC though. Is it also a downloadable title, the original Halo?)

Yes for 15 bucks: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/Halo-Combat-Evolved/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024d53084c

Though I'm bit disappointed as well.

Cool. I'd love to know the DD sales of old games like Halo.

I voted for 9 million, and Slimebeast summed up my reasons perfectly :)

well again, it wont be very high.  there are 6million or sp Halo copies out there, all of which can be played on the 360.

Reach on the other hand will have massive DD numbers and probably much higher than halo3 (digital bundles will help)....  indeed halo reach may well have outsold halo 3... and now here we have a proper sequel in Halo 4.  To think it wont sell close to or above halo 3 is a bit silly if you ask me.

Reach has massive DD numbers thanks to digital bundles like you said.  But I believe actively paid digital purchases of full retail games are very small no matter what game it is or weather it's on Games on demand or PSN (likely a few 100Ks max for even the biggest games).

But then you probably mean that if Reach sold a few million through digital bundles, a significant part of those guys would normally have bought the retail copy. I agree.

But I also remember the arguments when Reach came out. "This will be bigger than Halo 3, people see Reach as a main Halo game, this is huge". Therefore i think Reach is a good indication when projecting Halo 4 sales (minus the shorter legs).

More than Halo Reach for sure. That's 100% IMO

I put more then 14 million.
it looked great at e3 and everyone that saw it said they are looking into it even if they are not halo fans.
since i get a $20 gift card when i buy it at best buy i might actually get it on release now.

I really hope halo 4 brings back the fun of halo CE on the original xbox. halo 3, ODST, an reach have been total letdowns and i take them back in weeks rather then months.

I chose... 10 million.

Because end of console lifespan & unsure of quality at the moment due to new developer. I'm sure it'll turn out just great, but you never know.
