You're really sticking up to this? Game patches/mandatory installs on my PS3 take up over 30GB of HDD space. I have used up 150 of 250GB on my system (I have a 120GB system, upgraded to 250). That's between patches, DLC, videos, and games purchased over the store. Digital Distribution is the future! And you might complain about mandatory installs on PS3 games, but it improves loading times and IO performance incredibly. Wii U is gonna be another terrible disk thrashing system thanks to no installs. Especially now that it has to load high res textures.

Choice is king.
Option 1.
$300 console and as a casual player, I buy retail discs only, never even go to the shop channel or download a couple small games like Angry Birds. I absolutely never need more than th 8gb or if I do I am ok with erasing something or simply buying a $10 16GB card or I really get into digital distribution or DLC and apps and then go out and spend $50 for a 1TB USB HDD.
Total hardware cost $300 or $350 w/ 1TB drive.
Option 2.
$350 console with a built-in drive with 500GB (max you'll see). If I'm the casual user I wont' even use 8GB of that. If I'm a core user I'll use a lot of it, but still may need to upgrade at somepoint and may be stuck with some overpriced proprietary drive (Xbox says hi). Additionally, I have a slower base storage system that makes noise and greatly increases the chance of something breaking.
Total hardware cost $350 or more for at best 1/2 the storage.
I'll take option 1 any day.
