8GB is seriously Sad for a Next gen console wtf are they thinking.

Original Xbox had something like 5GB.

The original "Core" system 360 had 512MB.

The current baseline 360 has 4GB.

Wouldn't the transfer rate for usb-attached HDDs be pretty slow?

Yes, unless it is USB 3.0 (which I doubt).

Word. If it was, though: watch out.

360 started with 20GB, and skus with no HDD at all that you have to use memory cards for.

ps: as somebody pointed out above, came with 512MB I guess, lol.

highly doubtful, Ivy Bridge CPUs from Intel are the newest arrensals from Intel that just released not long ago and those are the first ones with native USB3 support without requiring 3rd party chipsets and even then, only 2 ports are supported, more chips->more money->more power drain->possibly eating up bandwidth from other things=bad.

Not true. I did the math, I'll post it if anybody's interested.

The bottom line is a non-crap USB 2.0 HDD will have transfer rates at least as good as the optical drive Nintendo is most likely to include.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

That's nice.. why make the consol more expensive.. ?

It's only memory.. this way we can use our own devices (do i sound like ms now..: )

Lay that sweet math on me, brother

All about some math

The hate in here is astounding...but that is expected after seeing some of the usernames in here... no matter what Nintendo do they will complain

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

If you would have informed yourself you would know that all four usb ports in the Wii U system are 2.0. I think we knew this since last year. 2.0 is fast enough for HD content, it's just slower when transfering, but if it's reading the files it should be fine.

Networking
Wii U can access the Internet via wireless (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) connection. The console features four USB 2.0 connectors – two in the front and two in the rear – that support Wii LAN Adapters.
