Forums - Gaming - Sony – our competitors “are losing the plot” with gamers

Maybe I'm being selfish but I'm happy Sony still focus on the "hardcore", if it doesn't cater to the mass market? I can live with that!

There's nothing wrong with them catering to the "hardcore." However, there is something wrong with them not making some Mass-Appeal games.

This my friends is why Sony is losing the plot with gamers. The most popular games in the world are the kind of games and gamers that Sony don't seem to be interested in. They are a hardcore company who makes games to serve themselves and you can really see how that kind of attitude follows through with their sales numbers and the 'relative' ineffectiveness of their first and second party studios next to their numbers and talent.

I was just thinking of this.

Sony seems to be severly inclosed. Kind of like China in ancient times, they didn't want to share or change their ways.

Well yup.

Sony's game problem seems to be that the differentiate by trying to do what every other third party game company is trying to do but 'better'. They cater really well to the desensitised minority of gamers, the ones who buy a lot of games at that. The thing that will trip them up is that as they make their games more realistic with better animation and better graphics is that not only will the games cost more to make with only a single console to recoup their expenses they will also turn off the wider audience who is sensitive to graphic violence.

Tease.

That and graphics won't always improve forever. There is a point to which a game can already look too realistic. Sooner or later Sony isn't going to have their defining factor anymore.

If this whole thing is them saying that they have been the best this E3 then I'm not surprised...

Sony wasn't the "Knight in Shining Armour" this E3. I don't know why they would try to say they are. However, almost anything is better than Usher, and Usher wasn't at Sony's E3 Conference.

Due to connection issues, I missed the way Usher was introduced on stage, was it a game related thing or just an interlude?

It was to introduce Dance Central 3. The funny thing is he wasn't actually playing the game, they just flashed up some gameplay behind him for a bit with what looked like completely different dance moves. Could hardly see the screen for all the smoke and lights though.

Though it can be argued they split their time better between the two so...
