Not another f-ing reality show.
Very fascinating. You will definitely need engineers and doctors up their to repair design and treat the ill. Then I started thinking... wait, can we even treat any diseases out there? We don't even know what kind of micro organisms are on Mars. Probably create new diseases we've never seen before. What about radiation? I guess these structures are going to be radiation proof. But what fun is that if they aren't gonna explore the surface?

Most of the missions to Mars have involved looking for micro-organisms. I haven't really kept up with the news but I don't think any have been found alive (but traces of them have or something)
2023 seems quite soon considering there isn't even a lunar base planned yet.... Mars is 120 times further away than the Moon at it's closest. Having said that, the Moon doesn't spin very fast so I believe it is probably not suitable for our current efforts at life support. The reason we always see the same face of the Moon from Earth is because it takes the same time to rotate as it does to circle the planet... this means any Moon habitation would have to be able to keep itself warm for 14 days before the Sun comes up again. Mars meanwhile has an Earthlike 24h 39m day.
Anyhow: LET'S POPULATE MARS!

In that sense it is,but I just can't stand reality shows. |
I think the "reality show" bit may just be an exaggeration on the part of the journalist. The people involved in this project (Assuming it goes ahead) will have to be trained and will be taking everything seriously, ultimately to us it probably won't be focussed any differently than the lunar landings (ie on exploration and discovery)
If they start making the paticipants perform challenges for food then... well...

Though the meme will also have to be extended to include Mars :-/

LOLOLOL!
What will they do when these people die? A trip to Mars isn't exactly 100% safe.

It's planned as a colonisation... if some of them die, they will try to fix the problem and send more people.

I'd join it even if it meant I would never come back as long as I was the only male and the rest of the crew were female.

It will probably be more like a semi live documentary. But call it that and nobody except a few space geeks will watch it. Not like they can exactly vote each other off now.
Maybe Nasa should do some more coverage of the ISS to get people a bit more interested in space again instead of Jersey shore. A live feed of that has got to be more interesting then big brother. Or is the only reason people watch tv is to see people argue and back stab each other.
