Ok... We got some dev kit info. What does that tell us about the retail device?

The only things taht tend to change from dev kits to retail units is RAM.
dahuman said: OK guys, seriously, tessellation unit doesn't mean shit for graphics without polygon pushing power, all it does is slow shit down unless you implement it in a way to save resources and work, it's meant as a tool for devs to do less work yet able to bring out more detailed objects in a 3D environment, which most likely won't be used for multiplatform games in general. Also, Power 7 based CPUs have 4 threads per core, so if the Wii U has a tri-core, it'd have 12 threads, which would burn some rubber. |
True, tas far as I know the tesselation unit in the 360 has never been used. There were rumours of Forza using it but that was never confirmed and was just fanboy talk.

To be specific, the Power5+. I was thinking the Xenon was the basis for the Power6, but it does share almost the exact sames specs with the Power5+ processor.
I reread the OP but hadn't gone back to correct my error. Based on the reports it would appear to be a tri-core, rather than the originally rumored quad-core, which is what I based my post on.

So it is a power5 with some of the cells PPE's added to it. Interesting. |
PPE are only slightly modified PowerPC cores. The Cell is one PPE with 8 SPUs.

Oh, I miread that. I thought you said PPEs pural, not possesive. Should have been Cell's PPE. Though that is still kind of strange to me. The cell was completed yet when the production model Xenon was originally released.
1.5GB of ram to stream the same game twice on the television and the controller.. makes sense..

The game isn't rendered twice. It is like having a laptop connected to a monitor, and both produce the image. It doesn't double the amount of memory used.

Hey, don't kill the messenger! It's almost confirmed that it is indeed more powerful than PS3/360. Even the launch games and 3rd party ports look better than the PS3/360 games. |
Which is kinda lame being that 360 is 7? years old...
also lets remmember that PS3 and 360 claimed they will be full 1080p, when almost no games on either console are 1080p.
