Forums - Microsoft - Did Microsoft just make Nintendo's Wii U tablet irrevelant?

Oh I agree it definitely has it's uses. I for one see no reason why it can't do a lot of the things we saw. WiiU tablet's uses were mainly touch only, so no biggy having a tablet sitting on your lap while your game with a controller and taking one hand off to tap the thing that just sits there you know?

LOL, says the guy who was complaining about holding the padlet in one hand and the mike in another during karaoke. This is funny :)

Guys, what ZombiU showed, what alot of the techdemos showed will not be possible on smartglass. The bandwidth just isn't there.

Did you not see Nintendo's E3?? It was a disaster and I thought wonderbook was terrible and boring....then I wasted over an hour watching Nintendo's conference.

Maverick, did you actually pay attention to the ZombiU footage?? That was interesting. If you didn't, put the effort in, given we both agree it's important to be educated posters.

None of this is less interesting than many survival horror experience I've seen, and none of it is possible on smartglass.

Examples of use exclusive to WiiU seen in ZombiU:

1) The Scanner

2) The Sniper

3) Seeing behind you and in front of you in real time.

4) Seeing two perspectives of the action at once.

Here's an IGN gameplay footage of the game:

Completely different scenarios considering Karaoke hasn't required both hands ever since lyrics started being shown on the TV screen.

TThe Karaoke game was also the only one I had a serious gripe with and your post here makes it out as if I said the WiiU tablet served no function all at with anything.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

One shows a trailer where you just stand in front of the TV and your lyrics and progress are shown.

The other is similar, only the TV now shows game character dancing and to see the lyrics and progress you need to look at a tablet you now need to hold in your hand. Sorry if I fail to see the purpose.

^Haha, I was just saying that in contrast with holding a map on your lap, the sing gripe you had is much less cumbersome. But no, I'm not making that out to show that it's your only gripe, I was just pointing out a bit of bias on your part :P

If by bias you mean the views of someone who owns a Karaoke machine, uses it frequently with guests over and sees how Sing is a step backwards.

My idea of something that sits on your lap, or on the controller itself, is for a game like Demon's/Dark Souls where you can't pause, so the menu screen to change armor/weapons/items leaves you incredibly vulnerable due to not having any idea what is going on while your in that screen. With a tablet on your lap you can pick it up at any moment and while the game is still going on when you change equipment you still can see what dangers are coming your way on screen and quickly react. Of course this would work better on the WiiU tablet than a seperate tablet since the controller is built around the tablet.

I brought this up in the same thread I complained about Sing.

^Okay I just got the vibe you were saying having a tablet on your lap is an acceptable alternative to the padlet, which in my eyes was horribly worse than the Sing setup.

But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you're awesome.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the WiiU Tablet is much more awesome than a seperate tablet and controller.

Yes I have looked at ZombiU of course but unfortunately Zombie games are ten a penny, gimmicks won't change that. Red steel was a first person shooter with Wii motion controls.....the game was shit and the controls didn't increase immmersion whatsoever. I looked to Nintendo's first party offerings to keep me interested at their conference and all I got was Nintendoland and a upscaled wii version of Pikmin.

Okay dude, you're out of whack. First of all, ZombiU =/= Red Steel. Did you watch both videos?? A great amount of effort was put into making the survival horror more immersive.

The "gimmicks" you mention are not gimmicks, they have a dedicated purpose, to increase immersion in a genre that desperately requires it (survival horror). What you see as a gimmick, real gamers (sorry you deserve it) see it as a real added value to a game. See this article from Kotaku:

http://kotaku.com/5916078/zombiu-sprinkles-dead-island-with-a-liberal-dose-of-dark-souls-in-other-words-its-rad

Even if Zombie games are ten a penny, good ones are rare as diamonds.
