How similar is it to Persona? Cause honestly thats the only thing im hyped for right now

I think Persona is a spinoff of SMT series?

Devil survivors is also spinoff of SMT.

Shin Megami Tensei is much more dark. Persona is about life as a student + demons. I love both of them.

Pretty different in some ways except the tone.

The core Shin Megami Tensei games are tradtional RPGs but usually take place just before or after the end of the world and deals with the survivors, demons, morality and all sort of freaking demon designs. 

As someone else mentioned, it is darker then your standard Persona or even Devil Survivor game, but roughly up the same path minus the school setting.

So much Japanese love for the 3DS! No wonder it's doing absolutely amazing over there.
