That is exactly what happened to me, although I was on my way to Heavenspeak, not coming back from it. I nearly wet myself.

Man, I STILL never used that port crystal from my first playthrough.  I didn't want to waste it.  I really appreciate the info about the full nelson.  I could never figure out why it only happened some of the time.  I was going crazy!  And the Ur-Dragon......kicked my ass.  Then, I ran from it twice.  Sorry bout that, guys.

You actually can't waste portcrystals lol. When you use them you place them on the ground. You can then simply pick it up if you want, carry it somewhere else and place it down. When you use a ferrystone you are given a list to choose from. If you just have one portcrystal it will say Gran Soren then where ever you placed it.

So for me I placed mine on the ledge outside witchwood. Close to cassardis and the encampment and gave me instant access to the good part of witchwood. 

Also if you are in NG+ you can still instantly fight the Ur Dragon although he isn't the tougher online version and can be taken down singlehandedly. Remember that little cove down the beach in cassardis that seemed weirdly empty? There is a stone you can use there. 

He drops some amazing armour and weapons. I got the best daggers in the game. Think it is something like 571 attack and 380 holy damage with no upgrades. Gotta try and get that stuff dragonforged! 

Wow this game is doing great in Japan. That might become the new Monster Hunter. I hope it can pick up in Europe an NA as well.

About my original complaint that you can only use DLC's once--I jumped the gun on that. Once you start the game, you'll never want to start over, again. You just keep building and building on that one initial save. My apologies if that kept anybody away from the game.

The thing about only getting DLCs once is kinda a technicality. 

What it actually is, is that in a single save file you are gifted the 12 weapons for free. There is also a single copy of each of them for sale at the black cat. So if you sell your free copy. Then buy the new ones from the black cat (in game gold) and either sell or gift those away. Well then there is no version in your game.

However if you started a new game+ then I believe the black cat will sell a copy again. And if you simply started a whole new game then the black cat would sell them again and you would also get the free copy. 

So what it actually means is that inside of one game's continuity there is a limited amount. EDIT: Counting NG+ as a new kind of continuity for the world.

P.S. start using that portcrystal!

So I can pick up the portcrystal and put it oustide the encampment and still port to GS (and the encampment), is that what youre saying?

Yes. You can pick it up and put it down as many times as you want and you always get a choice of where to warp. Gran Soren will always be an option then wherever and however many portcrystals you have will be an option. 

If you wanted to put it at the encampment (I assume you mean the encampment by Cassardis?) Then I would suggest doing what I did. Place it on the little ledge that is an exit from witchwood. It is pretty much halfway between Cassardis and the encampment (where the goblins and two chests are off the left of the path it is just there, so like 20seconds run from each) and gives you fast access to witchwood on the good side. So you don't have to go through the maze like beginning all the time. 

the black cat shop sells quite a lot of port crystals.  200k each.

So far I have placed either 5 or 6 around Gransys map...

and just next to it... later on madeline opens her shop near there and you can get an achievement/trophy when you visit her

The black cat only sells them in NG+ and I think 'post game'
