Forums - Nintendo - IF Nintendo does not impress at E3 this year will Nintendo fail in the West? Change of opinion now?

You do have a valid point Spurge. I expect Nintendo to have a great E3 though. I don't recall them being so secretive about a console as they are with the Wii U. They know they have a challenge to win back the core gamer. Microsoft have managed to take advantage of this in the west especially in the U.S. and U.K.

If they do underwhelm then they may struggle next gen however, Nintendo can seem to rebuild after failure I.e. the poor sales of the GameCube and the success of the Wii. Keep the faith.

Nintendo has a lot to do in order to ramp up anticipation in Japan for Wii U. Right now that region is their biggest obstacle. Their console sales will be fine in the US and EU, but take a look at Wii sales in Japan right now, their right next to Vita level sales of around 5k/week the last I checked. Their consoles traditionally do better in the states, and their portables better in Japan.

But to address the title of this thread, if Nintendo does not impress at E3, then the Wii U could look like a failure (comparatively to the original Wii). The Wii U, though, may just start off slower and have the same market impact. I think that it would be very hard for Nintendo to screw this up, but anything's possible.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that the Wii U sounds really promising already. An app store (packed with cheap titles designed for this controller), using the controller as a TV, toy functionality, first party titles, possibly heptic technology and also possibly a cheap price. Those of all ages looking for a new home console will be all over it.

With the possibility of having superior third party titles, and given the (at least sales wise) superior first party titles, there won't be many reasons left to stick with your old HD console.

I believe in Nintendo! :D

Its so funny how threads like this are made about Nintendo. This is a company who has posted ONE LOSS in its entire fiscal history. This is a company that literally CHANGES the industry almost every gen. This is a company that has never lost a handheld war. Nintedo hasnt failed and never will. If you wanna worry about something, worry about the PSV.

Worrying about Sony is too mainstream.

I remember last year's lukewarm reception of the Wii U with the media directly lead to a drop in stock price for Nintendo. Shareholders need a reason to invest money on the company and blind fanboys are not a reason.

Nintendo does have to demonstrate that the Wii U will be well received with both the casuals and the hardcore to give the console legs for at least another 5 years (which seems to be the cycle Nintendo follows). If they don't show a good range of both 1st and 3rd party support we could be seeing a repeat of the events of last year's post E3. I imagine Nintendo would not be looking forward to that.

So long story short, they HAVE to have a good E3 showing, they have no other options because Wii U is their next big thing, it is whats going to make them all that money.

I don't see how Nintendo can have a bad E3 this year, honestly

Also, 3DS is selling averagely in the West because we don't have all the games that Japan does (Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, Harvest Moon...) - we WILL get them eventually, so I don't really see that sense of betrayal either

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
They have Mario games so they'll survive.
I keep hearing this "Nintendo has turned it back on me/hardcore gamers" and it kinda bothers me because they HAVE NOT. Its one of 2 things or maybe a combination that may make you feel this way.
1. You have grown up or moved on(intrest wise). Nintendo will forever focus on the largest two pools of gamers(kids and casuals) because it makes them money and the games have pretty much always been more kid friendlie than any other company. This may not be your thing anymore. Maybe you ahve grown up from mario/samus/pikachu and require a CoD or Diablo or maybe a little Grand Turismo.
2. What used to be a hardcore game is NOT a hardcore game now. Do you remember the first 3 CoD games? Yea no one on earth does either. That was in a time where FPS games were not the "THING" and no one would consider that a MUST HAVE CORE GAME. But now look, FPS/CoD is what every game is compared too(whether it be style/gameplay/sales....ect) and looked forward too. The days of mario/sonic....ect being the "THING" or a MUST HAVE CORE GAME are over. Things have changed.
After analyzing the graphs and charts, I came to the conclusion... no.
