I'm looking for an Anime film/series that features detailed martial Arts scenes but the fights are detailed enough that you can tell what's going on. I don't want magic, mystical powers or technology stuff. Just humanoids fighting hand to hand. Weapons are cool too but everything is realistic and legible...does that make sense...?

I am not an anime person but friends really like Kenichi the mightiest disciple. Not sure if it is what you are looking for or perhaps you've already seen it.

Yes, go with Kenichi, 50 episodes. Then you can read the manga or watch the 2012 OVAs that are continuing the story.

Too bad. It's a good Anime and I think it might be a little hard to find one that is slightly "Normal."

He should watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's the equivalent of Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Half-Life, Bioshock, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy in anime, and then he can join the pretentious circle jerk.

My two suggestions are either Ippo or Kenichi since both are about regular fighting (Ippo about boxing and Kenichi material arts).
