1000 people should be more than enough, so long as the sample follows the normal distribution (and at the number of surveyed people, they should, but it is IGN, so anything is possible).

Interesting survey, if nothing else, it highlights the people's interest in low cost devices, so no super high end consoles next gen I'm afraid.

I'm pretty sure a 2% differential is within this survey's margin of error. Certainly not big enough to make such a claim over.

PS3 still more expensive then 360, if Sony can match Durango price or lower it then it can be market leader again.

No it is baseless, simple as. The playstation 2 also had a grip on the US home market and we saw how that ended up. Gamers are a fickle bunch with no loyalty. It is impossible to tell what will happen next gen.
