We can't account for suicidal corporations. As the Bankruptcy fairy flutters around Sony's shoulders, who knows what goes through their minds?

my only problem with that statement is quite frankly, the key decisions made were probably made 1-3 years ago.

True, but you figured Sony would have toned it down by now either way. The Vita i can get because although the PSP didn't quite do what Sony wanted it to, it did prove to be a viable enough counter-Nintendo strategy, but one wonders if Sony can really afford to go through the kind of financial damage they went through with the early PS3 (which wiped out profits from the PS2 era all told) at this point. Stronger corrections needed to be made, and if they're pitching a $500 console at a loss this time around, frankly they'll deserve what they get.

It wasn't because of PS3 horsepower that wiped out Sony's profits. If that was the case, MS would have had similar if not more losses at the beginning of the gen.

It was because of the blu-ray that Sony lost money, and that can easily be rectified this gen.

Microsoft had horrendous losses at the beginning of the generation as well. Different symptoms, but the same disease.

Nowhere near where Sony lost, and they also had RROD.

Other than that, the losses they incurred weren't bad at all, and easily recoverable with time.

That looks amazing and is my dream of how next gen graphics look.

I really really want next gen to be 10 times more powerful than the X360, just like all these engine developers, Epic, Crytek and DICE are wishing.

You guys are over reacting, there will be no great gaming crash.

Next gen will be perfectly fine, even with $500 machines, the only reason gaming sales are even down is because the generation is dying.

Now casuals will probably not be back on board next gen so we may see a slight dip in overall sales next gen but that will most likely be reflected with Wii U sales and shouldn't really affect MS and Sony.

Time will tell, but early returns on the handheld front don't seem particularly positive. Add in how development costs are going to rise even further even without UE4-level tech, and I have to admit I don't see things being particularly rosy, especially if the 'casuals' decide to not bring their cash again.

But maybe I'm just being pessimistic. We'll have a better idea three years from now.

Is it fair to say I'm not impressed?

Then its fair to say you don't know what your looking at.

There has never in the history of video games been a game released that looks as good as this.  Click the expanded picture.

So if your not impressed with that then I guess it is physically impossible to impress you.

I've clicked on the expanded pictures, and that's probably the reason why I'm not so impressed. When I came from my Ps2 and Gamecube and watched the first UE3 pictures I was blown away at the first glance.

Now coming from my Ps3 this looks better but, apart from lighting (that looks better even at first glance), you have to zoom in an look for details to find that actually this game is quite more detailed.

Maybe you last sentence is right, it may be hard to impress me anymore.

The Cell was more of a problem than blu-ray

I really doubt that. See....when PS3 launched, it was the cheapest blu-ray player available. And one of the best too.

now we just need the new Xbox and Gears of War IV

they can't afford it, they almost certain to go bankrupt, but that won't be enought to make them change their course...

it all depends on where nintendo wants to put their money.  the tablet is going to be more expensive than a standard controller.  not sure how much but lets just say $20-30 bucks more.  MSony is very likey, imo, to lauch at $400 dollar or more.  if nintendo targets $300 or $350 then that is another $50 to $100 dollars more that isn't going to hardware specs.  $70 to $130 dollars more is quite a big jump in hardware specs MSony is likey to have, imo.

...and that's not accounting for the likey case that MSony will probably be selling at a loss at launch, something nintendo is not likely to do.

While I agree with most of your post, specially the fact that MS and probably Sony will launch their consoles at a loss, there are ways for Nintendo to overcome some of those 70-130€ in hardware.

For instance they are going with propietary discs and it's easy to assume that the WiiU won't be able to play DVDs/BDs so they won't have to pay royalties for that. Also, it's rumored (because that's the only thing we know, rumors) that the console won't have an HDD, again something that Sony and Microsoft will probably include.

And then there's another thing to consider: resolution. That pics at 5029x2827 looks amazing, there is no denying, but our TVs are only 1920x1080. So yes, maybe the nextbox and PS4 will be able to run the UE4 at 1080 thanks to those +100 $/€ in hardware, but this gen has shown us that games running at 720 can look great, and if WiiU is able to run the UE4 at 720p, most people will find it good enough.

And let's not forget that, again according to rumors, Microsoft will bundle Kinect with the new console, and that will cost more than WiiU's controller.

Mind you, I'm 100% positive that Nintendo's console will be the weakest of all three, but I'm not so sure about it not being able to run this engine.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Looks nice. Exited to see cry engine 4, what naughty dog does next gen and ofcourse the ever so awesome the source engine from valve.
