Sounds like Rare is finally back on track! Ever since they joined MS they've done crap games, so it's nice to hear that they're gonna go what they do best: action oriented games!

And I'm kinda psyched to see what Lionhead studios are working on! I enjoyed Fable 2, but it left some things to wish for... And a "MMO-like" RPG sounds like just the right thing to lure me into getting a NextBox =D Next gen's gonna ge awesome!

if you think Kameo and PDz were bad...

Personally i loved the games.

To be honest, I've never played any of them... But, fact is, they don't have the same status as rare's earlier titles.

But like I said in my post:it's time for another golden age over at Rare! Kinect Sports are fun and all - but they are not great games.

why did you said these games were crap then ?

Yeah, sorry I generalized - but my point still stands: they were better before MS got their hands on them...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

If Rare is able to put out anything even close to the quality it did on a regular basis during their heyday in the 90's with Nintendo, then the 720 will be the console to beat next gen.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Isn't this kind of late to get started on a console that should be releasing next year? I thought 2-4 years was esential for a AAA game especially for a new console.

They've already been working on the games for a while and now they're just hiring new people because production for said games is probably ramping up significantly.

Is it just me or is trolling pretty hard in this thread. Somehow it is okay to say "Rare sucks these days" without actually playing the games. Or "I hope MS is not involved, because this is where Lionhead failed!"

I will just do the same for the next "OMG Guerilla Games is working on a GAME!" Thread. What the hell were you thinking they are doing anyway!?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I know. Some users are immature. Not to justify their childish behaviors, but Rare has a lot to prove. Having established themselves in the 90's, only then to fully accomodate Family-oriented games as of late is quite the contrast to their former selves. I'm sure it was a communal decision with Microsoft.

Creating a 'AAA' game now puts them in that much pressure from fans of the old Rare. I guess, we'll all have to see.

A proper Banjo Kazooie game, please.Hated Nuts and Bolts.

Again?! This is just not true.

Kameo was a really great game! Probably one of the most underrated this gen.
Banjo and Perfect Dark remakes were well executed.
Kinect Sports  and Kinect Sports 2 are good games.
Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts is a good game as well.
Viva Pinata is not that bad either.

However, Perfect Dark Zero and Grabbed by the Ghoulies were disappointing, but that is not enough to say that they only released crap games.

When you check metacritic you will see that their games are in the same region like InFamous, Infamous2, Warhawk, Starhawk and Twisted Metal and people praise these titles. They just seem to have a different target audience and the internet-core-gamer feels left out so he starts talking nonsense. And saleswise the Kinect Sports franchise alone is outperforming all of these games combined.

Remakes don't count... That's like giving credit to Grezzo for making Zelda: OoT. The gameplay and design were all laid out - all they do is hotting up the graphics.

And yes, Kinect sports are good and fun games - but I remember the days of the 90's when Rare used to release awesome games, games people still play today.

Have a look at this list: Donkey Kong Country, Battletoads, Golden eye 007, Conker, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Wizard and Warriors - and that's just a few of em...

Now have a look at this: Viva Piñata and Kinect Sports... that's almost all their new IP's the last 7 years... Conker and Banjo all dates back to the Nintendo days, so don't credit MS with those...

It's painfully obvious that Rare ain't the same anymore! But I hope they find their stride again!!

You do realize that during that same period, Rare was pumping out sports and wrestling games too, right?

Pretty much the team responsible for Golden Eye 007 and Perfect Dark left immediately after Perfect Dark finished and started their own studio, which was purchased by Crytek.

I have explained it before, and I will explain it again. Rare didn't fall from grace, because Microsoft acquired them. It was a long time coming, and well under way by the end of the 64s life cycle. The developer wasn't exactly pumping out its greatest titles near the end of their time with Nintendo. It was equal parts success on their part, and a major failure on the part of Nintendo. Rare a second party studio should never have been a position where it was matching the first party title for title, but that is what ended up happening. The studio was just run right into the ground for all intent and purposes.

First it was overworked, and then it was out positioned. Everyone forgets this was a developer that was familiar with developing for cart formats, and was suddenly thrust into discs years after most studios had made their own format transitions. They really got tossed into the deep end, and ironically for all the bitching and moaning that surrounds Microsoft buying the studio. Chances are it would have collapsed under the pressure if it hadn't been pulled away from the brink. Rare just wasn't doing very well when Microsoft came along.

Honestly I think Rare is in a position to have a real breakout, and I actually think the turning point was the game that people mock. The reality is Nuts and Bolts though not popular was very innovative in its concept. Which isn't a bad concept if it were worked into a Mariokart like game. The notion of building vehicles with different handling qualities in a kart combat/racing game could be hugely successful. So I don't think the innovation is lacking it is just a matter of implementation.

While they were pumping out sports and wrestle games they made good quality games as well - much more so than during the mid 2000's...
