This just isn't true. If Sony has any rights to any version (it's not clear that they do), it's to the PS1 version alone. They don't have rights to the PC version, and there's nothing indicating they'd have first refusal rights for exclusivity on a remake.

Like I said,

That's how Publishing worked back in the 80's and 90's, and that's what Sony does for a living.

So if you want to try and prove Sony doesn't have rights, the onus is on you, because Sony did publish that game.....and really, that's a period.

You won't see Final Fantasy 7 without Sony's say so.....and thus, you haven't.

PS...to Zuhyc......it was Eidos that put the PC version out....hence, Square-Enix

Actually, that's not how evidence works. You can't ask for evidence that something didn't happen, only that something did.

Do we have any documentation suggesting that Sony has right of first refusal for a remake? I'm willing to bet that we don't.

I have evidence and documentation that SONY published FINAL FANTASY 7 in the US and European regions.

That's factual.

Now if you want to refute that, then yeah, the onus is on you.   That's how it works, my friend.

I lost faith in SE's confidence in ever making a remake for this game

They're surely working on the remake for ( the far superior) Final Fantasy VIII.

For sure!

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

I think this would have been more constructive if you learned anything about negative proof, but here:

When you boot up the PS1 version of FF7, the title screen says "© 1997 SQUARE"

Now that little © has a very specific legal meaning, and that meaning is that all copyright for the work belongs to Square

There's a reason Eidos is the one who published the game on the PC: because Square are the ones who can agree or disagree to someone publishing their game. Publishing a game doesn't mean you own it. Copyright does.

I'd give this guy a chance to shine first. His ass is sore from sitting on his throne for these past years.

..and if FF VII is ever to be remade, no matter who will do it, even if NOT S-E for some weird reason, they will just blow it. Even if S-E would get their crap together, get old team back and do everything to not have this game in developement for decades, it will probably end up like Duke Nukem Forever where hype and way too many expectations from fans will cause it to suck in our eyes.

Wait, if Sony has publishing rights for FFVII, then why was it released for the PC also?

Even if Sony had first refusal publishing rights for the PS1 version, worked out ahead of time and independent of Square's copyright, that would still only apply to the version that they outlined in the publishing agreement. If they refused to publish the PC version, then they no longer have the right to say who can or can't publish it, because it is a legally distinct product.

That's why, even if Sony had the rights to the PS1 version of FF7, they wouldn't have rights to the remake: it would be a distinct, separate product, not covered under the publishing agreement.

How many games were released on 3 double layer blu-ray discs? And 12 Dvds? If "none" is the answer you know why we won't see a FFVII remake.

There is not even close to enough content in FF7 to fill up 3 full blu-rays

Id say 2 discs. One disc for the videogame, another disc to hold Tifa's full HD boobies.
