It wont really matter for the nintendo fans (you guys) who will probably buy the console regardless. But if nintendo really want to compete with sony/MS and attract the non-fanboy gamers then they will have to add something like this. Sony introduced the trophy system because it was so popular on the xbox and was a point of difference between the two (if not necessarily a huge one). Having this by itself wont get the Wii U sold but it will help it compete. And of course the whole trophy/achievement thing keeps the hype going for the console and its games, - people create sites and forums for these and show gamercards so it all adds to the community and the marketing for the console.
