Forums - General - Is it fair that God forces us to be conscious for an eternity?

God can see past, present and the FUTURE. God gave us free will. We can make our own choices. Problem is to see into the future would mean we are only following a set path and we dont really make our own choices. You see if we use free will that would mean god wouldnt be able to see what choice we make , taking away his ability to see into the future. So it comes down to do we have free will and god cant see into the future or are we following as set path so god can?

No such thing as "Fair" in this world/dimension we live in, besides boredom isnt a legit excuse for not wanting to exist or whatnot.

I guess the saying "You wont know the value of what you had until you lose it" (or w/e the actual quote is/was) could come into this situation, unfortunately if it did occur, than I guess it wouldnt matter since you wouldnt exist o.O.

@WiiBox3 - I like your comment and agree with it ;o.

No such thing as fair in this universe? But God created it? So if God didn't create anything fair, he is not fair.

Yeah, it would matter.

Other: only if you're bad. If you're good then you will be absorbed into the collective and your consciousness will be joined with the others who were good enough to make it to the end, and your mind will become one with the universe, at which point you as an individual consciousness will cease to exist.

So, kinda like the Borg really, Without the skin lesions and circuitry.

Only if I'm bad, huh? And who decides what's bad? Oh yeah, Him. And what if I don't approve with his rules? I'm just forced to live here, anyway. And if I get out of line, I get punished forever. But he gave me MY free will to do what I want? I guess free will is just an illusion.

But I like the idea of my individual conscious ceasing. I could accept that. What religion, if any, are you talking about.

People think it's fair that God FORCED you into this crazy world without invitation? And then FORCED you to abide by his rules? And then when decide you want to leave this world (suicide), he FORCES you to an eternity in hell? No, he doesn't allow you to stop living, even though you have every right to since you never asked to live. He decides to put you through infinite torture for and infinite amount of time. Not to mention he knew how his plan would end since the beginning. That's fair?

Sounds like a dictatorship to me.

Blame your parents not God. Unless God is your mother / father / both at the same time. It's your parents who decided to make a baby, theoretically in the full knowledge that they were deciding on your behalf to subject you to an eternity of living in one form or another. How dare your parents make that sort of decision for you.

Unless you think God controls every decision anyone ever makes (i.e. free will does not exist), in which case you're just a robot with no true consciousness and hence you really don't have to worry about a post-mortem individuality. Without free will our individual consciousness is an illusion. So there's really nothing to worry about.

So, with free will it's your parents' fault for beiong horny at the wrong time, not God's.

Without free will you don't really have an individual consciousness with which to continue to be self aware after you die.

I've never heard of the No free will = No consciousness idea before, I don't know if I agree with that though.

Well, if there is a Heaven and it is as great as it's said to be (no worries, only happy feelings) , I don't think you would ever want to die. Hell, on the other hand, seems pretty harsh.

Only happy feelings? I don't think I could enjoy that. Without the negative, there is no negative. Without sorrow, there is no happiness. At least, I wouldn't be able to apprecieate it. Happiness will become 'normal' or 'ordinary' for me with no contrast.

Gow is it any different from todays society? Your forced to abide by rules regardless of your beliefs. So enjoy this life is all i have to say to you.

So, you're saying that God is just as fair as today's society?

If we had no free will, then whats the brain and the heart for?

Why do some of you say we have no free will?

For example, when most western people hear the word "god", they automatically think of some kind of human-like being, something like an old man sitting on a cloud having a beard. They have a certain perception of the word "god" that they got from their parents, people around them, the priests in church, the guys who made the movies they watched or the Wikipedia-article on "god" (revision 1234567, last modified by user bick_dick_79).
And then they feel very clever rejecting their own ridiculous perception of the word "god"...

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him-"

Genesis 1:27

Also, stop assuming that atheists don't know about the Christian God.

i am sorry, but you can't take that from bible and assume is literal. we were made in his image, meaning we are perfect in our way, we have all the things we need to live is this world. God don't need air, food, hydration, a material body or a image. He is not visible, He is every were...

People just say that about pretty much every single part of the Bible...

After all, it is God's word. How could it not be flawless? And why ignore certain parts of His wisdom?

*sigh*

Our heart is to pump blood through our bodies. Our brains are to gain data from our sense and form actions based off them.

Why is there no free will? Because a person's personality is completely determined by his environment and innate brain structure. Both of these factors are not in control of the person.
