I never finished MGS3, didn't get very far even. The fixed camera angles didn't work for me with this game. Maybe it's time to try it again. I assume you can control the camera in the HD collection?

MGS3 is the only one I have yet to play. I may have to go out and get the HD collection now.

I prefer remakes on handhelds (as they hold up better on the smaller screen and portability is a huge plus) so I wasn't sure which version to get. When I played the demo of the 3DS version it felt like a let down from Metal Gear Solid 4 but I recently purchased Peace Walker for the PSP and last week I replayed the 3DS demo - and had a blast playing it. It's definitely a step up, graphics wise, from Peace Walker. And they refined the game as well (crouch walking, map on the bottom screen, better controls than on PSP...)

Long story short: I'll buy the 3DS version pretty soon. Just have to finish Peace Walker first. Anyone played the 3DS version and enjoyed it? I'd go for the HD Collection but I really want this game on a portable device.

Only if you can find a circle pad pro for the 3DS version. Otherwise you'll have the same controls as the PSP MGS games where you use the right face buttons as a D pad for camera control. If you're okay with that, it's fine without the circle pad pro.

For me, that whole face button/D pad control scheme pretty much wrecked every MGS game on the PSP.

I actually got one with the Resident Evil bundle. I guess I will give it a try.

Yeah, MGS3 is far and away the best one, from the sneaking options, boss fights, and plot to that wonderful soundtrack.

This and MGS 1 are great games, 2 and 4 suck.

I love all the Metal Gears that I've played. Each one has their own quirks and I love them all for it. Though I was more emotionally involved in the 4th solid than the other 3. Just seeing old snake on his last mission, all old, barely able to keep up. But whenever the boss music would hit and the hud would pop up I would think "No matter how old and broken he is, those beasts better be afraid, they're about the face legendary soldier".

The only version that had the fixed camera was the original Snake Eater. All other ports were based off of Subsistence, which added the free roam 3D camera that really should have been in the original unless the idea was to make the game unnecessarily frustrating.

Punished for buying early, too bad we didn't have DLC back then. The camera fix would have been worth it.
Next on my to play list then after I finish the J&D collection.

The game is fantastic, but the buttons layout is a bit outdated. Aiming with R1 and shooting with square ¬_¬
