Forums - Gaming - Honestly, why is Killzone 2 so highly hyped?

I'm not saying it is going to be a bad game nor do I want it to be because I am a big fan of the PS3, but why hyped so much after Killzone(PS2) and Killzone Liberation(PSP) just got average reviews reviews, nothing really special.

Did I miss something or some announcment to give the game so much hype or what?

Many games that don't deserve the hype are highly hyped. It's a combination of good marketing and desperate gamers.

Look at how many highly hyped games last year sucked or failed to make a 90% grade. Look at how many weren't released in 2007. This is why I try not to buy into the hype. Most of the time, you'll be very disappointed.

Killzone 2, in particular, got a lot of its hype from the CG video that Sony originally passed off as gameplay footage.  Killzone 2 may be a perfectly good game, but there will be plenty of time to get excited about it once it's actually released.

PS3 have gotta have some hope, even if is a very slim one. I remember when they were talking up Lair, LOL

After an extremely disappointing 2007, PS3 fans are pinning their hopes on anything they think will sell the system. Also, some people believe the Killzone series will be to Sony what the Halo series has been for Microsoft. I don't think it will sell terribly well.. probably on par with the PS3 Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted. Ok, but not enough to earn back the cost of production and promotion.

LOL at all of the above posts. The PS3 did very good in 07 for a console with a HUGE price tag and not many games. The reason KZ2 is hyped so much is due to the GFX of the game. The target render that was originally shown has now been exceeded in nearly all aspects. Provided there is depth and good gameplay, this game should be one of the best games of 08. It will look better than anything we have seen so far, I just hope it plays better as well. LAIR was a very good game aside from the controls. It was one of the best looking games as well. The framerate wasnt perfect, but I think the goal was a little high for a first gen game. Between Resistance2, KZ2 and HAZE, I think the PS3 has the FPS on lock-down for 08.

How do you know if the game has good gameplay darendt you dont

"The target render that was originally shown has now been exceeded in nearly all aspects."

hahahahahahaha

"Why isn't samus in a mario kart game?"

I don't understand it either. The other Killzone titles were average, what makes people Sony can pull it off when they didn't do much before. This seems to be yet another one of those games that is incessantly hyped on the Internet, but will probably fail to meet both critical and sales expectations. While I doubt this will be as poor of a game as Lair, I seriously doubt it will be all that great. Until we can play it, it shouldn't be passed off as if it is the Second Coming, especially since Killzone's First Coming wasn't anything special. Surprise me, Sony. Show me that you can do better than you have in the past with this franchise.

The original KillZone was hyped as a 'Halo killer.' It really met mediocre response. It was an ok game - definitely not in the same league as Halo.

This time around, the rendering of KZ2 has folks soooo hyped. The graphics look great, but no one, unless a dev, can say if the controls will be great, if the gameplay will match the eye candy.

Folks are quick to tout it as a system-seller, but I would only believe that if sales of KillZone 1 were in the stratosphere. They weren't.

I'll believe it's a system-seller when I see it ...
