So, while the person is walking down the street or in an office, they'll send a goddamn bomb down to explode and kill them? I must totally be misunderstanding something here.

And what about others who are near this person? A BOMB? I'm confused.

It's called collateral damage.

Also, A BOMB.

I feel like an idiot saying this, but what exactly are these drones?

And the government can just kill any USA citizen who's outside of the country if the government feels like the citizen is acting unloyal?

Unmanned airplanes that can missle people to death via remote control.

And... more or less.  They have to act in an unloyal way that makes it seem apparent they've given up US citzenship.

This of course has no actual definable qualities and we're just relying on the old "People will get mad if the government goes too far" plan.

Not so much a bomb as a Air to Suraface missle originally meant to blow up tanks.  Though yeah.  That's about right.

Though not so much offices as impoverished villages.

Also, done without the approval of the governments of the countries this takes place in.  Even when said government is considered our ally.

Essentially imagine if France were to just suddenly use a warplane to missle some guy they thought acted like a terrorist that might target france... and killed him and a few innocent people as well....

except like... 40+ times a year. (per country).

Yep I was listening to NPR (national public radio) a few weeks ago about this topic. All they have to do is suspect that you are a terrorist and be outside the US. They claim that they are not denying them due process when they do this. (Due process is the right to be accuse and judged in a court of law before any punishment is given.)

We completely agree with your anti-american point of view and would like to discuss it further in the open field to the NNE of your location. Please bring a placard with the WE HATE AMERICA logo of concentric and alternating red and white rings and we will be with you shortly.

Damn. The ones in Battlefield 3 can't target infantry or buildings, only ground vehicles.

Really though that's insane. If *anything*, why don't they just go in personally to arrest the man, bring him here, and charge him?

Or just...go in and shoot him secret agent style a-la James Bond?

Why an ATG? That's so overkill..

Because they don't give a fuck. What's the down side to doing it this way? No American lives are in jeopardy (unless they're on the receiving end of the bombing, that is), and any terrorist blowback it might bring will be used to justify more drone attacks in the future and further erosion of civil liberties at home. Win/win!

That is of course the other Drone policy.  Obama giving the go ahead to use drones to monitor neighberhoods.  Which a lot of people have a problem with.

To me it's no different then a police helicopter though.

Yeah, I feel the same way. At least until they start launching Hellfire missiles.

Brookings is very Left wing (supported and funded by people like Dianne Finestien) and there numbers are not objective or well supported by facts in this case.

Feinstein is a big supporter of the drone program, though.
