I think June-August would be a smart time to start the pricecut, that together with some giftcards etc should do well during Black Friday and the holidays.
Microsoft's best chance to have a last great year.

| crissindahouse said: @BHR-3 yeah 99 for xbox and halo 4 would be crazy. people who own an xbox and plan to buy halo 4 would buy the console bundle then, they would play halo 4 and make a toaster out of the 360 or something like that^^ |
Currently 360 4 gb in UK is 139.99GBP
Maybe Halo 4 bundled is pretty crazy for 99.99.
But I definately see 360 99.99GBP this year. And bundles definately 120GBP.
You can get 360 + Mass Effect 3 = 159.99GBP
OP is a bit off and way too much of a discount.
Forgetting my bet below and considering that 360's successor will be out Q4 of 2013 and that $99 is typically the bottom price for home consoles for the last couple years of their life, I'd give the following prediction.
Current Prices:
4GB - $199
4GB w/ Kinect - $299
250GB - $299
250GB w/ Kinect - $399
Kinect - $149
Nintendo will likely announce Wii U's price/launch date sometime in September and probably about the same time or just before drop Wii's price to $99.
So, I'd expect MS to drop 360's pricing around September as well to attempt to overshadow Nintendo and create its own buzz. Also, when is Halo 4 launching? Maybe do a price cut around same time.
New Prices:
4GB - $149
4GB w/ Kinect - $219
250GB - $219
250GB w/ Kinect - $299
Kinect - $99
This will keep 360 in very good competition with Wii's lower price and an expected PS3 drop in price as well. It will still keep a solid price difference between the various skus and provide solid 1yr price point until its time to drop it down again in prep for neXtBox.
There is no reason for it to drop by so much as the OP suggests at this time. MS would simply be throwing a way solid profits at a time with R&D is still high as they finalize their next console.
For sure 360 is gonna price drop, probably anouncing it at E3.
That being said I'm not sure how much it will affect sales overall. I mean don't get me wrong it will lefit them somewhat and certainly help the console but I really think we're starting hit saturation point with the current generation of consoles especially in the US.
The real answer for MS is the impending launch of the nextbox. Though a price drop will certainly help.
Where did you get this crazy idea that an Xbox would only cost $99?
Next drop is to $179 and $249 (in Europe 149Euros and 199 Euros).
And it will not affect sales much because you can already find all consoles dirty cheap (the 4G X360 for 150 Euros, the 250GB X360 for 200 Euros and the PS3 for 220 Euros).

that's great "prices in eu are already xy pound" good that we have so many countries with the pound here in the eu^^
but not speaking about rrp and only about uk, you can get the 4gb for 117.95 pound at zavvi. http://www.zavvi.com/games/consoles/xbox-360-4gb-arcade-console/10226556.html
It's already mass market price at $200 for the 4gb model. I don't think a price drop will do too much more. It might increase sales for the premium model though if it was dropped from $300 to $250 or so.
