Forums - Nintendo - The Next Mario Platformer

It seems that the Mario platformer games just keep getting better and better. But after the pure masterpiece that was Super Mario Galaxy, how can Shigeru top himself? Here we can create the games that can be great.  

Also if you are not going to take this thread seriously, shut up and get out.

Here, use this as a guideline (you can add more categories)

I'll go first.

 

Name: Super Mario 9 (temp. title)

Story: Mario was going to visit Peach for you know what. Mario enters the castle, but doesn't see Peach. Suddenly the floor melts beneath his feet into molten lava. He looks up and sees Bowser holding onto Princess Peach. Bowser says that if taking the princess away doesn't work, I'll just have to send you away! Bowser then summons a mystical power and sends it at Mario. Mario then is sent to some strange place. It is ice, grass, lava, desert, water, and rock. Suddenly, an ancient being pops from the ground. He tells Mario that a powerful being has sent you to here, the heart of all lands. This place keeps the world from changing. There are six Noble Stars of Ice, Grass, Lava, Desert, Water, and Rock that keep the world intact. It keeps the deserts from turning into ocean and grasslands turning into tundra. Unfortuantely the same being that has sent you here has also stolen the Noble Stars. Fortunately, one was kept hidden from him, the Noble Star of Grass. But while he has the other stars, he can change any of the world's terrain at his will. We suspect he will use them to take over the world. Here, I shall give you the Noble Star of Grass and the Grass Lands will open. You must travel in the grass lands and recover 15 Grass Stars, for this will open a doorway to the evil being. He will surely use one of his Noble Stars to stop you. Please recover the Noble Stars.

Gameplay: This game will have basically the same controls as Super Mario Galaxy for that was perfection, but has a major addition. You can bring up a menu with the 1+2 button that shows all 6 of the terrains. You select one of them and you can create terrain by aiming at the screen and pressing the B button. You increase the size of the terrain with each power star you get. If you get ice, ice increases, get a grass, grass increases etc. The diameter starts off very small when you get it, only large enough to fill small gaps. But when you get all of the stars, it can fill a gap 8 feet across. So it is basically like leveling up. It is necessary to level up the terrain to be able to clear certain levels. Also you only have a limited amount of shots per level so do not abuse this power.

The next Mario Platformer will be on Wii and will also include a mapmaker in which people can get stars that don't count for maingame but are just a fun addition and add a lot of replay value... The maps can be put online and every map will have some sort of leaderbord (showing how long people took to finish the level etc...) People will also be able to rate maps!

Nice idea man could never top that but i will try.

Name: Super Mario Kingdom( Kingdom for mushroom kingdom but putting that in there sounds weird)

Story: Mario is walking with Luigi, until suddenly they here a boom from peaches castle, they immediatly run toward it and see bowser on the top of peaches castle about to jump onto one of his airships. Mario notices that bowser has teamed up with all o ther mario enemies from all the different games. Then they are grapped and taken away with peach still in bowser's cluthes. Mario soon awakens on some tall mountain. He meets some very bright creatures that tell him that the they are the star overlookers. They tell him that they overlook the world and try to protect it. They tell him that bowser has taken all of the other stars from different places. So then you can go to different kindoms of the world(kindoms would be like domes in galaxy) and each kindom has different level(such as yoshi's island). You can also unlock character when you go such as luigi, and yoshi.

Gameplay: This game has some concepts like galaxy, but you can also learn powers from different places you go to. You can use these powers by use the wii remote pointer and using different motions. You can do powers such as sending down beams of light and sending in pillars of wind, but the powers take up your power and you can rebbost it by collecting certain things( im not shure what they would be). They would also go back to the collect 100 normal coins in a level to get a star.



Super Mario: Water world

game where you ONLY play levels where you have to swim and dive all the time.

will be as epic as the movie water world

 I do hope this doesn't come true or I may just commit murder due to the frustrating controls whilst in water!!!



Around the Network

My influences for this design: Mario Galaxy, Zack and wiki, the Zelda franchise, Portals, Super Metroid.

Story: who cares.

Gameplay: Every Mario game has several things in common: platforming, a bunch power-ups, quantized levels, item collection. These elements would, of course, have to be maintained. The recent mario games have also included a certain gimmick....here is what I would like to see for the next game.

Level Deformation. Mario will have access to many power-ups and each power up will allow mario to affect the level in some creative way. Now instead of just jumping from platform to platform until you reach the end, you will be forced to use these power-ups solve light puzzle elements to create your own pathway to your goal. With any luck, the levels will be designed in a manner in which they can be solved in many ways depending on how you utilize the power-ups.

So basically a platformer with the problem solving elements of zack and wiki but much less frustrating, maybe closer to zelda style play but quantized into short, specific, and themed levels, creative world deformation power-ups kind of like the portals gun but not the portals gun cause that would be uninspired, and able to exploit power-ups to pass levels in creative ways like in super metroid if you are good at wall jumping.
