Forums - Nintendo - So I am going to play Chrono Trigger for the first time ever

I need a new fresh RPG experience and what a better place to get that than the SNES, I hear so much about this game and chose to start a file on it (Have to download it though) I can't really call myself a true RPG nut if I don't at least give this game a shot just like if you have never played Terranigma.

Just a few questions:

1: Are there side-quest boss's? (A must for me)

2: Is it long? (I want at least 30 hours of good solid gameplay)

3: Can I name my characters?

4: Is it challenging?

5: Is it random battle encounters? (If so is it annoying as hell like FF V or nicely appart like FF X)

6: Are there Summons or equally cool looking spells?

7: Has it got an excellent and easy to follow story like Terranigma or is it clanky and complicated like FF Tactic's PSP?

8: Overworld map or stringed together locations?

Thankyou, that's all I want to know for now.

BUMP

I refuse to play this game until all my questions are answered :D

What !? You played Terranigma and not Chrono Trigger .
CT is one of the greatest JRPG, IMO.

1.Yes, at least one for each characters ( I mean sub-quest, not secret bosses )
2. around 25 hours but what is geat about it is that has great replaybility thanks to "Game+" and 13 endings
3.Yes
4.Was FF6 challenging ? or Terraigma challenging ?
5.Not randm encounter in CT
6. Good looking spells in CT, and awesome "combo tech"
7. Simple but great like Teranigma.
8. In the overwoeld map there isn't enemy random encounter, it is just a simple 2d map ( good looking too ).

Play it !

Its just what your asking for play it now. Best RPG ever. I have played it recently and i was blown away by its storytelling no random encounters(thank god). 13 fucking ending awesome!!! unique character abilities and great spell system, each member on the party has and a different strategy on the field. Lots of side quest(you have to finish them all if you want to see the true ending) lots of replay value because after you finish the game you can play it again with all your weapons and armor from the beginning. Kicks Final Fantasy VII ass all the way back to Midgar and Dead Scar with eaz.

Just a few questions:

1: Are there side-quest boss's? (A must for me)
Yes there are several. Most are not horribly challenging, but they are pretty cool. They also lead to story points that really make the game what it is.

2: Is it long? (I want at least 30 hours of good solid gameplay)
If you do the sidequests definatly. If not probably not. The game really is made on the endings and sidequests imo.

3: Can I name my characters?
I believe you can.

4: Is it challenging?
Not really. It's not the easiest game ever, but its not as difficult as most rpg's. Some bosses can be tricky till you figure them out.

5: Is it random battle encounters? (If so is it annoying as hell like FF V or nicely appart like FF X)
No all battles that I remember can be seen onscreen.

6: Are there Summons or equally cool looking spells?
For the time the spells looked amazing.

7: Has it got an excellent and easy to follow story like Terranigma or is it clanky and complicated like FF Tactic's PSP?
Terrific story. Very easy to follow. Still my favorite game of all time actually so I'm a bit biased.

8: Overworld map or stringed together locations?
Map. No encounters on it though.

Have fun it's a great game.

Awesome, thanks guys, I'm off to go illegally download it now, it's not my fault, if I could purchase it I would.

1) The entire end of the game is side quests, about 1/3 of the game play time.

2) 15-25 hours, but then you get to do New Game +, and try to get all the endings (there are more than 10, depending on where you are in the story when you defeat the final boss, which you can do at any point on a New Game +).

3) Yes.

4) Not compared to older FF games.  Probably about the same challenge level as FF7 or FF8.

5) Occasionally there are random encounters.  You can see most of the enemies before you encounter them, and they don't come back once they're defeated.

6) There are no summons, but there are spiffy multiple-tech combos that involve more than one character casting a spell simultaneously.  It's spiffy.

7) The story is fantastic, easy to follow, and not at all awkward like more recent FF games.  Top notch, one of Square's best.

8) Overworld map with no enemy encounters.

same for me ArtofAngels since I dont want to invest in a SNES + old game
and since the PSX version are not as good as the SNES version

the best solution is to emulate the game on ur PC using some software ...
it functions, find them by yourself

Time to Work !

Hey thanks, but I just found it all on romnation.com

After watching the intro I think I may of played this before but don't know if I ever got anywhere or if it was someone I was watching, I just remember fighting skeleton things on a bridge, but I guess those kind of battles are common on JRPG's.
