Well sales of the gamecube, xbox and PS2 dont matter anymore.... (I realise the PS2 is amost like a mother to many here so it matters to them). And its always been like that, when the PS3 was being humiliated earlier in its like, sales diodnt matter becasue it was all about the quality of the games and the diversity of the games and the... and the....
Sales of the DS and PSP don't matter any more as far as I am concerned.
The only interesting ones at the moment for me are PSV and 3DS
This gen is almost last gen. Last gen doesn't interest me as far as sales are concerned.. never has, it didnt as soon as the 360 released and this gen wont interest me as soon as the WiiU releases.
I'm sure some people will be talking and debating the ongoing sales of the 360, PS3 and Wii long after the WiiU releases, 720 and PS4 release... I wont.

That's because the positioning of the consoles in those generations were known and/or the consoles aren't selling much anymore. There was nothing to discuss. Everything was set in stone except the PS2's lifetime sales, which did "matter" this generation.
During this gen, sales of the PS2 did "matter". There were still threads popping up about the PS2 whenever it passed a new milestone (100m, 110m, 120m etc.). It was the only thing worth talking about from last gen. If the Xbox had been near the PS2 in sales, you can bet your ass that people would been have speculating their sales. (can Xbox pass PS2? Who will reach 120m first?).
Do you remember the threads speculating if and when the DS could pass the PS2.
The PS3 and 360, however, are still selling a lot and the order of them are still unknown. You would think people, espescially on this site, would be interested in speculating when either would take the lead and pull off.

And what does "don't matter" even mean? When the Wii U launches, the PS3 and X360 fanbase will still be active and consoles will still be sold at a healthy rate. It'll still be an active topic worth discussing. When the PS4/720 launches, then maybe the PS360 sales will die down and become less worthy of discussion, but if they continue to see fairly high sales, then it's still be worth discussing if & when the PS3 surpasses the X360.
