Forums - Sales - PS3 360 gap below 2 million post adjustments

When will the PS3 surpass the 360?

end Q4 2012 122 19.81%

end Q1 2013 93 15.10%

end Q2-3 2013 193 31.33%

end Q4 2013 165 26.79%

by october 2012 43 6.98%

Total:616

Isn't it days or weeks until quarter shipment come in from the companies? Bad timing to make massive adjustments just before that methinks.

I say the PS3 will surpass the 360 in worldwide sales in Q3 2013 and then lose the lead again just slightly due to the 360 performing better in the Holidays. By the beginning of 2014 I expect them to be at a statistical tie and the PS3 will overtake the 360 for good in Q1 2014.

To all those yabbering about which side did the bigger accomplishment this gen I would say their about the same. Both of them had complete screw-ups at the beginning of the gen. The PS3 had it's ridiculous price and launching way later (then again launching later doesn't mean squat as is obvious from the Wii) and the 360 had the horrible debacle known as RROD and being a complete failure in Japan (probably mostly due to RROD). And both had good moments where they shined such as brand name, extremely strong exclusive line-up, slim, Blu-ray and to a much lesser extent, Move for the PS3. Whereas the 360 had the one year head start, Kinect (which single-handily kept it in second place), the slim redesign and to a much lesser extent, all of those special edition 360's.

It doesn't matter anymore really. Eventually, PS3 will catch up and sales will be even.

The difference, however will be that the 360 made millions of profit, while the PS3 made millions of...losses.
Sony will be lucky to break even when all is said and done. I hate to say it, but Sony fucked up big time this gen. It's sad to see this once-huge electronics company fall this deep.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

We know it doesn't lack in-house exclusive support, but I think he's talking about some of the recent JRPG exclusive (like Ni No Kuni and Final Fantasy X HD) love it's getting (something a PlayStation needs).

Something like Final Fantasy Versus XIII can now remain exclsuive (not that it will, necessarily) and have healthy enough sales on the PS3 without the need of multiplatting because of the growth in fanbase.

See above

Depends on how you judge it, and btw, you forgot the Yakuza titles.

I suppose. I just think it's odd that he'd say the PS3 has been recieving more non-first-party exclusives recently. Both the X360 and PS3 are actually losing 2nd/3rd party exclusives as this generation carries on with each console's install base increasing. It's a lot harder to ignore a console when it has sold 60m+ units as opposed to only 20m.

I think you are both correct , he his correct in when the gap favoured the 360 by a large amount MS had the upper hand in regards to exclusives and all the momentum ,but things started to change especially when the slim came out and slowly as the fan base built  , games that where on 360 , games like Boshock that made sense to be exclusive to 360  for a number of factors , like ease of integration with unreal engine , fps selling on the system came across to PS3,  so from his stand point he his correct ,but your side is also valid because although PS3 had reached critical mass for want of a better term and reaped the benefits it wasn't like the early 360 days when factors such as a far larger install base, aggressive wooing by MS made it viable to go exclusive or timed , the tortoise had for all intents and purposes caught the hare got back some support , but most punters / developers went it's so close our best bet is back them each way .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

i knew i liked you for some reason, but i disagree with only one part. PS3 will take and keep the lead in 2013, but only by a small margin.

both are reasonable though right?

all 3 screwed up, but 1st place screwed up less.

I don't trust those VGC PS3 adjustments unless there are backed by solid shipment numbers. And the gap doesn't really matter anymore, because a new console generation is coming!

Spoken like a true Xbox fanboy. You say it doesn't matter because it will only keep decreasing until the PS3 is the one in the lead.
Sales between PS3 and 360 really do matter. If you don't care about sales when they are almost neck and neck, then what do you care about? When 1 console is completely dominating then its BORING. The PS3 was called "DOA" by many and to see it outsell the 360, no matter when it happens, will be an impressive feat.

I will be keeping an eye on both current-gen and next-gen sales.
I have a feeling that the PS4 will have a huge advantage if it launches in the same year as the 720.

I think it's funny on a site about SALES which SALES don't matter anymore.

lol

Wow, nearly six years on the market and catching up to the 360 is the goal. That's pretty sad when you consider where Sony was with the PS2 and PS1. I mean yeah it's kind of an accomplishment I guess, but overall Sony will be the loser of this gen no matter how anyone spins it.

Just imagine what people would have said if anyone predicted this when the 360 launched. The PS3 was supposed to DreamCast the 360 out of existence. Kind of bitter-sweet I imagine. Next Gen will be interesting.

What? lmfao...if anything it was the opposite. The 360 was the supposed to "dreamcast" the PS3 out of existence. If you followed sales you'd see that the Xbox mangaged to outsell the Gamecube which is a huge accomplishment for Microsofts first console. The Xbox 360 was bound to be much more successful.

At $600, no one was expecting the PS3 to "dreamcast" anything.

Are these threads still relevant?really?this make some people happy after waiting 6 yrs?compare sony,s losses to what microsoft has gained this gen and we clearly can see who is the winner and who is the loser.anyway congrats to sony for losing so much money to get to 2nd or 1st.these type of threads always make me comment. pls make more.

You sound mad lol.

Anyway sales are what matter, not profit. It's the only thing we here on VgChartz track.

Even though the Wii lost so much marketshare these last few years,  it's still the best selling 7th console. The Wii is in 1st.

Funfact: The PS3 still is a financial desaster, while the 360 did quite well for MS.

Funfact: We're talking hardware sales here, not profit or marketshare.
