Eh, I just figured they were bros. Admittedly, there were some homoerotic overtones with Soren, but this is the same series where Ephraim and Eirkia didn't really act like siblings at all, so I just brushed it off. As for Elincia/Lethe, Lethe is boring, and the only thing interesting about Elinicia during PoR was her royal status; I'd have shot her down too.

I dunno, I quite liked Elincia. Moreso in Radiant Dawn admittadly. Much more character there.

Also of note is that in the Japanese version the character introduced was Paris. This is the same as what Ike was going to be called in the Radiance games, so it's almost like it's the same person but in a different timeline.

...and in the US version, the character is going to be called Priam.

Excellent Illiad reference, mind.

I'm not sure I follow, sadly.

Then again, there's much about FE I don't get!

Priam was the king of Troy in the Illiad.

...and the father of Paris.

I'd agree with you if there was an actual straight option for Ike (because there's a lot of homoeroticism and incestuous undertones in some character interrelations), like with Eirika and Ephraim, but as it is...

Ah, I see now. Nice references from Nintendo there!

Awakening is full of name references:

-Sully is Soirée (or Soware) in the Japanese version which is French for evening.  This is opposite of Stahl's Japanese name Sōru which is similar to Sol meaning sun in Spanish.

-Lissa's personality is homage to her name in greek meaning "honey bee".

-Vaike is actually used more for a girls' names than boys, and its said people with the name are usually enjoy life and lack self-discipline.  Vaike's Japanese name Wyck is a Scandinavian for "from the village" which is a reference to his support conversations.

-Maribelle is a mix of the both Mary/Maria and Isabelle which are often associated with high class Southern Belles, belle being french for beautiful, an archtype for young woman of the Old South upper class.

-Cordelia is associated with Latin cor or genitive cordis which means heart.  This word is seen in the tragic heroine of Shakespeare's King Lear.  She is unwilling to profess her love to her father, stating "Love, and be silent", a reference to her support conversations and how she can't have one with Chrom.

-Severa is the feminine variant of the Latin word severus which means having a severe, serious or grave in demeanor.  Both Severa and and mother Cordelia Japanese names Tiamo and Serena respectively reference love and peace.

-Kellam's Japaense name Callum is Irish for dove or peace.

-Lon'qu has two meanings in his name.  Lon is Gaelic for blackbird, a symbol of unluckiness and qu comes from the Chinese qù, which means quiet or alone.

-Panne's Japanese name Velvet comes from the fabric known for its plush and smooth texture.

-Tharja comes from the Indian name Tharaja meaning "star with full glow".  Her Japanese name Sallya is a Hebrew for princess.

-Ricken is German for powerful. Dis is funny to me, even tho he is a beast Sage.

-Morgan's Japanese name Marc is the default name of the Tactician from FE7.

-Donnel is Irish for brave or dark-haired.

-Lucina has the same name as the the Roman Goddess of childbirth. In ancient Roman religion and myth, Lucina safeguarded the lives of women in labor. Lucina was also an epithet for Juno. The name was generally taken to mean "she who brings children into the light".

-Indigo's Japanese name Azur comes from azure, a reference to his blue armor.

-Yarne is play of the word yarn. His Japanese name of Chambray is also a type of fabric.

-Nowi and her Japanese name Nono as well as Nah and her Japanese name Nn are various ways of saying no.  Nah sounds like gnaw as well, referencing her being a dragon and all.

On another note I got to chapter 15 on Lunatic, things are getting a little over board now....

Panne's Japanese name Velvet is also a reference to the classic story of the Velveteen Rabbit.

The cliff diving scene in this game is lovely.
