They also said similar stuff about real time global illumination for crysis 2 only for it to not exist in the end. They have already said it right now that these Direct X 11 features won't be put in if it's too hampering on the frame-rate.

So yeah, grain of salt even though the game will end up looking great anyway.

Not to mention their example of "DX11 tech" was Parallax Occlusion Mapping which was implemented in DX9.0c shaders since 2005 when ATI showed it off in their "Toy Shop" Demo... Not to mention modders have added it to Crysis 1 and Doom 3, even advanced realtime versions of the tech only need DX10 or OpenGL 4...

Speaking to PC Gamer, senior creative director Rasmus Højengaard said Crytek had not yet decided what anti-piracy measures to take with Crysis 3.

“I can’t say. Obviously it’s something we’d like to address,” he said.

“We’ll do what we can, but whatever that’s gonna be is hard to say yet.”

Although Crytek have reason to be a little sore about piracy, the developer managed to joke about it.

“It’s unfortunate that you don’t win any awards for most downloaded game,” Højengaard said.

“Certainly people apparently really want to play our games, they just don’t want to buy them.”

Crysis 2 was one of the most pirated games of 2011 and is estimated to have been illegally downloaded at least 4 million times after an early build leaked a month before release.

Crysis 3 is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next northern spring. Check out our video featurehere.

Crytek is hoping to build a detailed world for Crysis 3 that feels as rich as Skyrim’s, but without resorting to the latter game’s enormous distances.

Speaking to games.on.net, Crytek’s Rasmus Højengaard decried comparison to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

“In Crysis 3, we want scale, but we don’t want the immense scale that Skyrim has,” he said.

“What we then add is detail within that scale that we decide, so that we get this richness in the environment that we want,” he added.

“Skyrim, they’re going for epic, epic scale, which means that their micro-detail is prioritised less. Their micro-detail exists in their grandeur rather than in their let’s-take-a-look-at-this-little-thing-here.”

Højengaard described the level of ambient detail in Crysis 1 as an “almost arrogant approach” that there “wasn’t really room for” in Crysis 2′s cityscape. Crysis 3′s urban ruin affords Crytek the opportunity to explore that once more.

“It isn’t in any way pushing anything but the ambience of the game,” he admitted, “but ambience in a setting like this is super-important. If you stop and everything’s frozen, it’s not gonna be believable.

“You need all these layers with the depth; you need the light-shafts that move, you need the movement of the plants, and you need the little animals that hop around or some random deer that walks across the screen at one point that you can maybe shoot with your bow if you want.

“Stuff like this is what’s gonna make people go, ‘Holy crap, this is a rich environment.’ That is our goal.”

New Crysis 3 screens

I absolutely love the idea of asymmetrical multiplayer with the Hunter Mode! 2 vs 14 is going to be exciting.

But the singleplayer looks almost as boring as Crysis 2, both gameplay and story-wise.

Something's really bothering me. The animations just look terrible, and the CELL humans in that multiplayer trailer looked ugly. The killing animations just looked terrible. I expected more out of something that's supposed to blow my PC away. =

Their recent trailer (the one with the special "frog technology" stuff) had absolutely terrible animations too. The bird in the beginning flew extremely awkwardly, and the frog jumped in a horrendously awkward fashion.

I take it animations are not these guys' strong point.

I guess this kind of goes hand in hand with the physics in general?

Those graphics!

As long as it doesn't meltdown the consoles, crysis 2 is what finally ylod'd my ps3!!
