Forums - Gaming - Molyneux: Fable 3 is a "personal failure"

I remember Moluneux saying that Fable was going to be a massive open world game, larger than Elder Scrolls, where all of your decisions effect the world around you.

Fable was fun, but talk about BS.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

The first Fable was great, probably because I had not read anything of his hyperbole before it came out. The sequels got progressively worse. And sorry I didn't like the dog, all game long I was trying to get rid of it. Getting it hurt so it would limp behind at a distance was the best feature of the dog.
At least he is free now to make something new instead of another sequel or spin off.

After reading the interview it seems he wants to make a cross between WoW, Minecraft and Journey with Coronation street mass appeal that will change the gaming world and bring people of all different skills and interests together contributing to a persistent experience across consoles, tablets, smart phones and facebook.

He made good games at Lionhead.

Fable was good. Fable 2 was good. Fable 3 was boring, below average. Think I played the game for an hour and lost interest, not been off my shelf since.

Him leaving Lionhead is the best thing to possibly happen for them. They need some new creativity.

Good riddance.

Gamers never liked him for his over promises. I personally thought his ideas were good but he exaggerated on their wow factor. And now that hes gone, Lionhead and MS Games Studious actually has a better image.

Go figure.

Can't wait for him to hype up his next game. Probably a game with real emotion where you truly feel connected to the character and the environment

for the ps2?

Probably PC or XBLA. Why PS2?

just reminded me of all the bullshit propaganda surrounding the PS2 launch...

Lol, I wasn't following the industry much back when PS2 launched so I don't remember this.

You want hype? You want bullshit promises?  You want over promising and under delivering?

I give you thr PS2 pre-launch hype machine of Sony.

Several years have passed since the PlayStation 2 launch. Let's look back at some early claims and hype. Several completely ridiculous claims were in a Newsweek article back in March 2000.

OMG! Teh Trojan Horse!

But the most significant aspect of the PS2 might be its ability to hook into the Internet, making it a "Trojan horse" to bring online gaming, e-commerce, Web browsing, e-mail and downloading of music, software and video into the home.

Woah, dude. It's teh Matrix! Mr. Anderson!

"You can communicate to a new cybercity," gushes Ken Kutaragi, the visionary behind the PlayStation. "This will be the ideal home server. Did you see the movie 'The Matrix'? Same interface. Same concept. Starting from next year, you can jack into 'The Matrix'!"

w00t! Toy Story graphics!

The secret is the Emotion Engine, a fast, high-powered chip set that is fine-tuned to generate polygons, the building blocks of 3-D graphics. While the original PlayStation could handle a mere 360,000 polygons per second, version 2 can spit out more than 20 million: it's a jump from "South Park" to "Toy Story."

Chang0rz society liek teh printing press!

"It's historic, a mass-market appliance that fundamentally changes society in the way the printing press did," says Trip Hawkins, founder of Electronic Arts and CEO of 3DO. "This is a new canvas for humanity that takes us back to our nature."

Ironically microsoft also claimed the original xbox could do toystory like graphics :P - But sure, all companys hype up their consoles before launching. And for the ps2 it worked :P - Yes it's extreme, but it's not like they are exclusively doing it. The ps9 ad was pretty awesome :P

I don't know, I mean, hes very much prone to overhyping, but people in general still seem to enjoy his games, so lets see what comes out of this.
