Forums - Gaming - If KINECT sucks at tracking then why do people keep buying it!?

Because it's fun guys. Remember how much fun we had with Wii Sports before we moved onto games with substance? Well for me it was 10 minutes but for the rest of the world it was 5 years. With that in mind expect the Kinect to continue to sell well for a long time.

Because, it is:

A. Alot of fun! I really enjoyed the Wii in it's time, but this is more than just an HD upgrade. It's a expanded way of playing (not just the wiimote moving.)

B. People use it for exercise. Exercise often sells.

C. It's more useful and convenient than people seem to think. Say, your doing dishes, jaming to some music, and that song you hate comes on - the one that burned into your memory and you don't want to ever hear again. You have sudsy hands, busy doing stuff, how are you going to escape the horrid music? (You say, 'Xbox, Next') and it skips to a different song. (true story)

It seems some gamers just want to be couch potatoes and finger smash buttons. I think they have nothing to fear as their will always be those kinds of games.

But other want to play games where they can use verbal commands in the game, actually want to learn to fight or dance as some kinect games teach that, or they want to pretend they are in a world and get to do things they couldn't it real life. (Like smash a city in K Star Wars, or Happy, Action, Theater.)

And, I’m a big fan of the voice search through Bing. It is much nicer than trying to tap in some letters for a search.

It opens up a whole bunch of options Xbox and gaming in general.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

when i play with my nephew and niece i have much more fun with kinect than i have with a standard controller game. same with some friends when they visit me to eat together or so and you play a round or two with them after that.

that's why i don't care if every game will get a score of 50% or something like that. i have a lot of fun with them then. if i'm alone at home i play my skyrim or battlefield but i don't have more fun as playing with other people together in front of the tv even when they are "shitty". much better than sitting in front of the tv to watch a boring movie together...

So the same reasoning as selnor then. The two reasons to humor the presence of Kinect:

1) Kids.

2) Beer.

nahhh i don't need alcohol just other people around me but sure, it's clearly made to have fun together with other people and not to play alone (the "only kinect" games). but i like the voice command or the head tracking in forza as well. it's like:

1. play with other people if it's an "only with kinect" game

2. play the game alone if kinect is only an addition like in forza.

It's called the infomercial effect; this is most comparable to weight loss gadgets, also called the Wii Fit phenomenon

Yeah, wii is really good

Yay!!!

I've heard McDonald makes best food - look how many milions of burgers they sell every day...

Its far from perfect, but Kinect tracks well enough for certain types of games.

People buy it because it has some fun games, there is a demand for control free gaming, and there are no alternitives.
