I hope it doesn't. Otherwise MS will get the idea that we (as a whole) like Windows 8 and we'll be forever stuck with this ugly excuse of an interface.

New features are fine, however, in my opinion, if this Metro abomination will stay mandatory in any way, shape or form on desktops and laptops, then this system will fail. Mostly due to internet backlash.

And yes, I've tested W8. Deleted VM with it after 15 minutes, I just couldn't stand looking at this new "start menu".

It looks decent on handheld devices with touchscreen, but it just doesn't make sense on 24" HD display. Big boxes cluttering entire display space doesn't look appealing when you can just have, you know , regular icons.

It's 8mp. The 910 will have a 12mp. But the Pure will have 41mp..

When I was a kid a lot of my friends had older brothers who kept saying the same things about Windows 3.1. It being an abomination... They were part of the DOS 4 Life crowd. And we see how that turned out.

At the time, MS pretty much stole desktop UI from Mac and it worked for decades. Now when they're trying to be innovative....well, it looks like an attempt to cash-in a quick buck because supporting one, and only one system for more than 3 years is just not profitable enough. Or it's just plain fixing something that isn't broken at all. For that kind of change to make sense, we'd need to see other OSes (various Linux distros, OS X) start using Metro-esque interface sometime later (if it's the real and only way to move forward). At this moment, I consider Metro UI a Love-it-or-hate-it gimmick.

Windows 7 will be supported till 2020 at least, there's no need to hurry with moving (unless Win8 will have exclusive directX 12 support or something like that, as it was with 10 and vista).

Windows 7.5 is just like Windows 8  PC. I have both so, I know. Yes WP8 is coming but not this year. Only Win 8  is coming this year.

Ipad is made by apple, so Tablets arent really afectin them.

Anroid however, I think are in trouble. This is Windows. And Androi tablets as they are now are in alot of trouble ainst what I'm running on my laptop as we speak. SAmsung, Acer etc will coose Windows 8 over Android. Thisisnt like Windows Mobile or a seprate windows touch. windows 8 is windows 8.

Also with a mouse metro is easy as pie. The scroll on the mouse is used nicely to scroll along the UI. And snap maultitasking is also esy wth mouse.Yes touch is te ultimate but mouse and keyboard is by far still amazingly easy and intuitive.

I can run like 10 programs with not a single load on Windows 8 while running a HD video in the background. On a 2.4ghz dual core pentium 4gb ram laptop. On the same laptop Win 7 cold manage about 6 programs but with loading and a SD video. But switching between the programs was not fluid nor loadless on Win7.

Also Win 8 provides me with easy snap together apps. Right now I write this coment with side by side snapped in People app. A notification cam through that someone wanted to Video chat like 20 secs ago. Instantly snapped in the app for that by simply clicking the notification that came up. And all the while keeping this IE10 open ad visible side by side.

The ability of Win 8 is unmatched for what can be achieved. specialy where multitasking and cross program intergration is concerned.

Ah, I see... Still, I assume WP8 won't be too far behind W8... as such there will not be enough time for W8 to make a significant difference to the marketshare of WP7.5.

I don't really understand your comment about iPad... the iPad is a tablet too, and as such will be competing against W8 tablets, oh wait, I guess you mean because Android and W8 will actually be competing on the same devices (wheras Apple obviously won't be putting anything other than IOS on the iPad)... In that case yes you have a point in that it will affect Android more, but Android is certainly not going to be a pushover, it is going to take time if W8 is going to manage anything in the portable device market.

My laptop is 1.7GHz and 4Gb RAM and has no trouble with 6 or more programs... Unless you are opening the Adobe suite I don't understand why you can't manage more than 6. Not sure about HD video as I have never had any need to watch video while I am working. And I can switch between programs when i want with no problems either. If the programs on W8 truely don't have any loading time to start-up though then that could be impressive depending on the programs...
as an example I just opened MS Word and it took 4 seconds
MS Excel took 2 (not sure if it was quicker because it's also part of Office though)
Steam took longer at 6 seconds (I don't have it running in the background so that's from scratch)
then Spotify took about 8 seconds (not sure if that's just it though as a few months back it used to be much faster, Spotify has been getting gradually poorer)
then Chrome: 4 seconds
iPlayer: 3 seconds.... that's now 7 programs open and I can switch between them instantly, I am running out of programs I use frequently that aren't Adobe though, so lets see how long Photoshop takes: 12 seconds (actually seems quicker than usual)
Illustrator: about 20 seconds (perhaps a bit slower than usual... oh and it's CS3 compared to CS5 for my Photoshop, so I don't think there will be many shared resources)
Powerpoint: 3 seconds... that's now 10 programs I have open, Spotify is running Steam is downloading game updates and I am currently using Firefox, and there is no discernable difference when switching programs compared to when I only have 2 open.
Added Windows Media player... 'fraid I don't have an HD content but I am now also playing some SD video and not having any frame-rate issues.

I can only assume there is something wrong with your laptop, you are exaggerating, or when you say 'running programs' you mean for them to be doing something rather than sitting idle (though as I mentioned, Spotify, Media player, Firefox and Steam were all running things at once, and I just opened a project and started drawing in Illustrator and then opened a large photo in Photoshop and started adding filters, still no noticable difference in speed)

In total I had 12 programs open if you include Windows Explorer (not sure if that just naturally runs in the background anyway) and tried to get as many as I could doing something at once, or at least in quick succession after each other as I can't physically type and/or draw in more than 1 program at once myself.

Anyhow, technical performance test aside, I am intrigued by this "snap together" thing you mentioned.... are you saying that you were browsing, and when you clicked to check the video chat it snapped both onto the screen at once for you? as that does sound pretty cool (at least assuming it doesn't just put it 50:50 anyway... quite often when i am browsing I will snap firefox to one side to be able to view/use another program... but I then have to adjust both programs width to what's needed)

EDIT: MSWord opened twice as fast the second time I tried... does office continue to run in the background once you close it's programs? or does W7 keep resources in temporary RAM or something?
