Forums - Nintendo - Another one!..Wii U games 'look just as good' as PS3, but still 'not as capable'

Now this one actually makes sense. Wii U is rumoured to have a cpu compareble to the Xenos cpu of the X360, a PowerPC triple core chip, and a GPU of AMD's HD6xxx generation. Like this article states its only the cpu that seems to be lacking, and if you count in the additional strain that wireless touchscreen controller will have... The same thing happend with Kinect witch is rumoured to use up something like 10% to 20% of the Xbox 360 cpu, leaving less computing power for the developers to work with.

The irony is that the Wii U CPU was never questioned as being weak.   It's based on either Power7 or Power A2.  Both are, as their minoker notates, powerful.

And either of those CPU's in a tri-core configuration are more powerful per clock cycle than the Cell and Xenon.  Let's not forget you get 4 threads per core and tons of eDRAM.

You'd ahve to work pretty damn hard to make those CPU's weaker than either of the Cell or Xenon.

2 anonymus devs and one from a big company. I think tgey are the same guys as before.

so it will have the most beautiful 20fps graphics we are going to se this generation?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Why is it that these anonymous developers always make statements that sound like those of ordinary trolls?

Why indeed...

Ugh....If I hear one more thing about the WiiU's graphic prowess (or lack thereof)... Honestly, it really shouldn't matter. As long as it can churn out passable graphics and Nintendo has a good strategy to lure developers (like with the DS), then it should be fine. And the graphics look absolutely fine to me.

People seem to expect more and more out of home consoles as far as graphics go, but that's honestly a job for a computer if you ask me. I don't want to spend $500 for a home console that is "graphically superior." I'd rather get a cheaper console so that I can actually afford to buy some games...

SONY TROLL IS OBVIOUS

recently (today) gearbox said the CPU IS POWERFUL, 2 minutes after = anonymous developer: the CPU is a shit compared to ps3 LOL sure 6 year after the cpu is worse than the ps3 one ofc i belive you developer

and things like:
“I suppose you don’t need sophisticated physics to make a Mario game.”

OFC BECAUSE NINTENDO DONT WANT THIRD PARTIES IN THE WIIU LIKE NINTENDO SAID SO MANY TIMES THIS AS A KEY POINT FOR THE WII U

SENSE = 0 what this "anonymous developers" are saying

It is too early to say what exactly is in their kit, it wouldn't be much of a change since Wii essentially did this last gen, having a system comparible to last gen instead of next gen competitors. As retards to the tech demo stuff, I'm pretty sure that was all run on 360? and the bird demo was PS3. Not to say the Wii U can't do that, it was just too early to use the actual console hardware, it's common in the industry.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Hmm why is it that as soon as someone says something good about WiiU someone ells says something bad about it?

We are all being played guys *trollface*

Edit: Nintendo must be flattered that WiiU is getting all this attention!

1.  Not exactly.  Saying WiiU is on par with the HD twins would be the same.  Saying WiiU is not as capable as the PS360 is like saying the Wii was less capable than the Gamecube.

2.  The third party games shown at last year's E3 Nintendo conference were 360 or PS3, but certainly not the tech demos.  Why on earth would the bird demo be running on PS3?  I could see you saying a PC, perhaps, but anyway as far as we know it was running on WiiU hardware.  And the Zelda HD demo definitely was, and in real time, too.

ofc the cpu and gpu will be more powerful than the ps3 ones ( even if theyr only a "bit" more but in the end more powerful ), these rumors are just pure flaming... 6 years after omg...

someone is trying to shot down the wii u before its release

Re: Comments on the CPU

In almost all real-world in-game scenarios with properly optimised code, the Wii U's CPU should outperform the XBox360's CPU, even if it's clocked as low as ~2.5GHz. That's even ignoring the impact of the dedicated I/O processor and DSP.

As far as I can see, there are three reasons a developer could come away with the impression that the Wii U's CPU is less capable:

1. They're working on early dev-kits.
2. They're working with poorly-optimised middleware.
3. They're not very smart.

Point 1 is very plausible, as not every developer will have the latest round of dev-kits yet, and we know there's a bump in performance with them.

I've talked about the CPU and GPU also. But whereas i was told the exact quantity of ram "aimed by Nintendo in retail version" at a specific moment in time, i don't know the specifics about the GPU (its "class", etc.). Nevertheless, yes, they are superior. And for the GPU, it's not slightly (as "highest on par" "+10/+15%). Really, imagine a current gen HD game at solid 720p, at least stable 30fps, + a 3D scene on the 480p tablet screen rendered at the same time + additional effects and image quality like anti-aliasing and texture filtering, and with that in mind, you can't believe Wii U CPU & GPU will be only on par or slightly better than their PS360 counterparts.
