Microsoft would be much more likely of the two companies to release a slim version, like you said Sony doesn't have the room or possability for savings.

I think you need to reread the 2005 E3 stuff.

Nintendo and Sony both announced their next consoles (revolution and PS3). They both showed consoles and Sony also showe the boomerang controller that was dumped later.

Nintendo specifically detailed many of 'revolutions' new stuff, like backwards compatability, VC, and many other items including the metroid prime 3 teaser.

That is what I'd call a minimum and what in the least sense of the word expect a reveal from MSony this year.

Uh, this is exactly what I just said concerning Nintendo E3 '05.  Trust me, I remember it well; they showed next to nothing on Revolution, spoke about it for about 10 minutes, didn't even show the controller, and showed about 10 seconds of a Metroid teaser:

 

If this is what you consider worthy info, as I said, it's certainly possible that Microsoft or Sony may do this much just to try and take attention away from WiiU, confirming that new consoles are coming (which is something we already know).  Again, expecting what Sony did at E3 '05 (giving their new console the spotlight of the press conference) is setting yourself up for disappointment.


I don't know why I'm replying as it seems you're trying to just be nitpicky. However, my post and anything I've ever said simply state they will reveal it in some fashion from simple videos all the way up to playable games. Nintendo and Sony did simple reveals with really nothing much to show in 2005 and personally that is what I expect from Sony this year, but MS could very well do a bit more as I think they are far further on in development.

Cooling is not the ps3's weakpoint.

Smaller chip dies and hardware make the console cooler, not hotter.

I think they will announce it at this E3. Why? The console will not be cheap. They will be about $400 each.(not even including games or accessories or tax!)
This is why an early announcement is necessary. People need to save up for these consoles.

Announcing at E3 2013 in June and releasing the consoles in November '13 is too short of a time period. Not everyone has that kind of cash lying around.

Saw this rumor that Sony is sure they will release the PS4 before Microsoft. http://ht.ly/a1eSh
If that is true then it means before holiday 2013 which if they follow the Vita launch will be December 2012 in Japan, March '13 everywhere else.

I know smaller chips = cooler console.  Just meant to say they would have to make improvements in this area as the a fair bit of the current console size is dedicated to the cooling fan.

Did you mean December 2013 in Japan and March 2014 everywhere else? March isn't a very strong release date, I would think they wouldn't want to miss out on Black Friday/Christmas in N.America.

Doesn't mean PS4 won't come out....Sony said themselves(and has proven with the PS2) then they support thier previous consoles long after the succesor is out. God of War II is the perfect example. 3rd parties are STILL supporting the PSP in Japan. An early-mid 2013 launch is looking a lot more likely.

I think they will maybe tease a little bit - Maybe they show something to special people but not for public.

Sony for example has still to many PS3 Exclusives coming up - They would change the interest from stuff like The Last of Us to Next Gen already.
And M$ is still forcing people to believe the stuff they talk about Kinect...

Both have a big program left for this year - They will probably wait a while before they take the wind out of their own sails.

Here's the thing.  PS3 and 360 sales are marginal at best any more.  There isnt too much left to bleed out of those consoles, the market for them is fairly saturated.  You are looking at MAYBE 4-5million more sales and thats it.  What you don't want to do is leave the public thinking that you have nothing in the works and let them go out and all buy Wii U.  The hardcore understands the hardware cycle, but your general consumer just wants to know what they can play Madden/COD on.  Not revealing something allows the possibility of the other company revealing their next gen and leaving the non-revealer as the LOSER of E3.  While "winning" e3 doesn't gain you much, losing can have catastrophic psychological side effects.  Normal people might only read one article on your console, and it will be the one that says you are most likely leaving the console market because you didnt demo your new rig at e3.  

 

I think both of the Nontendos reveal at least something this e3, at least to take some steam away from the Juggernaut that is the House of Mario.

Did you mean December 2013 in Japan and March 2014 everywhere else? March isn't a very strong release date, I would think they wouldn't want to miss out on Black Friday/Christmas in N.America.

That would make more sense but I what  I wrote is more of what I hope happens :D
