Glad somebody agrees with my OP, although I have been pulled back and forth by the different possibilities brought up in the thread. Three more months and we will all find out.....

MS is great as surprises...i'm hoping for a full reveal of specs and then at the end "ships tomorrow!!"

Nintendo didn't show any videos at E3 '05, save for a 10 second teaser of Samus in front of her ship.  They also didn't show anything on the controller, either; all they had was Iwata holding the console case and speaking for about 10 minutes.  It wasn't even "Wii" then... it was still "Revolution", and they said practically nothing despite the fact that it was launching the next year and Gamecube was already a sinking ship.

This year, Microsoft and Sony don't have sinking ships with their current consoles at all.  This holiday, one has a lot to gain with Halo 4 and a price drop, the other would do much better to sell as many PS3s as they can financially.

I agree that they may mention/tease something to try and detract attention away from WiiU, but expecting anything close to what Sony showed at E3 '05 (going all out with the next-gen spotlight, an official announcement, specs and target videos) is a bit presumptuous, IMHO.

If MS does that I will buy one, just out of appreciation for how insane that would be.

I think you need to reread the 2005 E3 stuff.

Nintendo and Sony both announced their next consoles (revolution and PS3). They both showed consoles and Sony also showe the boomerang controller that was dumped later.

Nintendo specifically detailed many of 'revolutions' new stuff, like backwards compatability, VC, and many other items including the metroid prime 3 teaser.

That is what I'd call a minimum and what in the least sense of the word expect a reveal from MSony this year.

Whle they don't have 'sinking ships', they do have new competition with Wii U. The only reason Nintendo and Sony revealed anything in 2005 was because MS had already shown off 360 in some form prior to that E3. Keep in mind PS2 was no sinking ship either in 2005. However the facts remain that to remain a true competitor in their market, they will need to keep some buzz going forward and they will announce something.

Yet Sony was able to cut nearly 100$ off of their production when they moved to the 40GB, which isn't called the ps3slim, fyi.

Although I will say that Sony has less room to maneuver in terms of their hardware, 360 has a ton of space in a console, and the ps3 is pretty tightly packed. Unless newer parts are much smaller, I don't realy see a slim in the works, unless they move to a portable harddrive or an ultra thin blu ray tray.

They won't show anything at this E3, MS has a new Halo coming out and Sony has The Last of us and maybe The last guardian to show. Wii U is getting the same multiplatform games ps360 are getting so MSony won't try to leapfrog them so early when ps360 will be cheaper than a Wii U.

Uh, this is exactly what I just said concerning Nintendo E3 '05.  Trust me, I remember it well; they showed next to nothing on Revolution, spoke about it for about 10 minutes, didn't even show the controller, and showed about 10 seconds of a Metroid teaser:

If this is what you consider worthy info, as I said, it's certainly possible that Microsoft or Sony may do this much just to try and take attention away from WiiU, confirming that new consoles are coming (which is something we already know).  Again, expecting what Sony did at E3 '05 (giving their new console the spotlight of the press conference) is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Every console manufacturer make games themselves so what is your point? And yes 3rd parties put new games like GTA5 that so far seems to not be coming to WiiU.
