Forums - Gaming - Sega games that are on the chopping block

As you may or may not have read, Sega Sammy is taking a ~90 million dollar charge this quarter to cover the cost of restructuring its US and European Divisions, and with it comes game development casulaties.  I still believe the company is still struggling with its console developer past and its missteps afterwawrds (like selling visual concepts)

Sega did not mention which game(s) were being chopped, but we can assume they were on the cusp of being announced and speculate what they were.

First and foremost, I think Sega is done with movie tie-in games from Marvel.  Those games were atrocious and the return on investment was not worth it (when factoring in game development cost and licensing).

Xxplain this.

If THQ, Sega and pretty much everyone keeps focusing more and more on AAA and 'what works' IE: Already existing strong IPs then how will this industry ever innovate? Without innovation, it will ultimately stagnant and die as will these publishers.

Sega is practically irrelevant in gaming. People associate Sega with Sonic and a bunch of old and dead game series.

Nowadays most of Sega's games are made by third party developers who almost accidentally got their games published by Sega. The consumers don't associate Total War, Bayonetta, Valkyrie Chronicles or Condemned with Sega, they associate them with their respective developer, if anything. No developer actively seeks to get their game published by Sega

Well at least we know which franchises are safe...

"We conducted detailed reviews of earnings projections for titles targeted toward the U.S. and European markets and decided to narrow down sales titles from the following period and after to strong IPs, such as “Sonic the Hedgehog,”, “Football Manager”, “Total War” and “Aliens” which are expected to continue posting solid earnings. In accordance with this, we are canceling the development of some game software titles."

I'm honestly not that huge of Sega fan, just a huge Sonic fan... so as long as he's alright, I'm alright!

Carl will not be pleased... again.

Well as long as titles such as Aliens don't go on the chopping block (and titles like these won't, fortunately) I won't be complaining too much.

Sure, it's a shame several titles will be canned, but unfortunately that's the nature of the beast when you start to sign a deal with companies like Sega & THQ who have been in dire need of restructuring and new direction for far too long.

What the hell is Football Manager o.O

Sonic and Total War being safe is obvious, not sure about the other two titles.

They should reboot Streets of Rage and Golden Axe.

Ohh thank goodness.

Yay!!!
