Forums - Sales - Sony Will Surpass Nintendo For Number One Handheld Gaming Device According To New Research

Too be honest, I just don't see it happening, Sony just hasn't developed the proper business model for the PSV to overtake the 3DS in my opinion.

And I don't see Sony releasing another handheld device before 2017 either, that would just be disastrous.

At the rate it's currently going, I don't even see the PSV overtaking the PSP.

That should happen at least, must remember that console life spans are getting bigger.

Though I can't see Sony over taking the handheld industry from Nintendo, sounds maddening.

It's definitely possible. The Vita sales are starting up so slow so it can only go up from here.

interesting read. only time will tell

I like the idea, bias obviously. Aside from that just looking at sales now I'm predicting at least 8 million by years end, so half of what the 3DS did. Over time sales will improve and I'm sure the Vita will be a greater hit than the psp. I'm worried about the 3DS in it's current form. I'm not sure if it will have a long lifespan like that, the redesign people have been calling for is the key for Nintendo staying on top but it will most likely lose out on more market share to Sony this generation. The Vita is the better handheld over the psp and it might be hard for the 3DS to reach DS levels. I know the 3DS sold a ton first year, but that was sensationalized by the price cut. It would be crazy to see Sony over take Nintendo, I think that the space will just be shared more evenly.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

The more I think about it, the more convinced that Sony really screwed up with the Vita ...

It would be (just about) the least imaginative system, but had Sony simply released a 7 inch android tablet with two analogue nubs and a handful of buttons and sold it for $200 their system would be far more popular.

Sony still in the gaming business in 2017. Interesting theory.
