Forums - Website Topics - Montana's Message To The Community

Blatant trolling of course is a sad phenomenon but another thing I don't like are these humorous one-liners, sometimes expressed through a humoruos picture. I don't know if Montana includes this sort of behavious when he speaks of lack of quality in the forums but I think he does.

It shouldn't be anything wrong by simple humour right? But I often think it disrupts threads. At least that's the effect it has on me. The first few replies to a topic often sets the tone and if those are humorous one-liners or pics I usually feel awkward to make a serious reply, I usually don't reply at all or just post a small comment.

A big reasons so many threads die is because only 16 are shown on the VGChartz home page.

I was very negative about the decrease in threads shown since the (current) redesign. I don't go to 'Gamerconnect' and look for threads, I want them to pop up on the main page. Duh.

The old days of Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft/Music/etc. sections ALL being displayed on the MAIN page will have a huge impact. I mean, people spend 90% of their time on the forums, yet only like 5% of the main page is dedicated to forums.

Yeah, that's bothered me also. When a thread gets bumped to the second page, the activity of that thread drops considerably. People don't really care much to load the next page to find a thread. I know I've done this myself too. I rarely click on page 2 to find a thread that may interest me. I think a larger front page would help remedy this issue by giving a larger amount of threads to be successful before being doomed to the 2nd page.

Or like we had it in 3.0, where you filter the Hot Topics with a click. So there would be general hot topics, then you could click the Sony tab for example, and you'd be given a list of all the top threads in just the Sony section. I loved this setup.

EDIT: Oops that was what he was saying, lol.

I also rarely check the second page of activity, unless it's late at night with nobody posting. But the site redesign is coming up, and ioi talked about one of the split areas being much simpler and having a community feeling similar to when the site first started, so that could be the solution.

That's exactly what I want, VGC can be very unwelcoming at times, we could all do with being a lot less serious. As long as you can still speak you mind in a humourous tone then there is no need to be so serious, it's that kind of attitude that makes people like Badgenome and d21 such great posters.

While you may sometimes get that as a first response, if the thread is deserving of actual intelligent conversation, such will usually appear eventually.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm glad he didn't list any names...

I believe I am as guilty as badgenome on that one.

I think you take being a mod way 2 seriously. It's just an internet forum after all.

I rather aplaud Montana for taking his job seriously, would you rather let any john or jane be mod and let the place run rampant?
