Forums - Sales - Dark Souls sells 1.6 million

The second best game of the generation for me, so it's without saying that it deserves every one of those sales and many, many more.

I hope they continue bringing us more of the Souls saga, even if the games aren't intertwined themselves (story wise). It's all in the gameplay and in the challenge

What was your number one game again?

My first two in this gen are Elder Scrolls IV and V obviously, but the Souls games are clearly my third and fourth. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are such marvelous and unique games that deserve near endless praise.

It's fairly obvious, it's Demon's Souls xD.

I still prefer Demon's over Dark, mostly because I found Demon's Souls to be more challenging and difficult and gave me a bigger satisfaction when playing it in NG+.

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

That's truly impressive for what is in essence a niche title. I'm happy about this, Demon's Souls was really good and the sequel is even better!

I love Dark Souls. Truly a unique game.

Yeah, and Demon's Souls had better atmosphere and tension than Dark Souls. On the other hand Dark Souls has a slightly more complex and open world design which I think was a very positive change but overall Demon's Souls felt slightly more special.

Indeed. In Demon's Souls, the atmosphere itself was opressive and bleak, there wasn't any sign that things could get better for the lost souls trapped in the nexus and the whole setup oozed a descent into slow despair, which was accentuated with each of the world's designs (especially Valley of Defilement).

Dark souls was a bit less opressive, even though it was dark in it's own way. Also, Dark Souls had far more variability in the gameplay department and you could formulate much more strategies and different approaches than in Demon's Souls, which were a big bonus for me. Still, it didn't quite give me the same feeling as playing Demon's Souls for the first time did

Do you think you might have felt differently had you played dark souls first?

I don't know, though it is a fact that there's a large difference of atmospheres between both games. At least for me, Demon's Souls atmosphere suits the game perfectly while on Dark Souls, sometimes it seemed to not convey the feelings that it was you alone and feeble versus the most powerful forces of Lordain.

It's actually looking like Dark Souls will be heading to PC, despite some people's claims it won't:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-21-near-irrefutable-evidence-of-dark-souls-pc-arises

And why wouldn't this game sell decently on the platform? PC gamers eat up hardcore RPGs. It's right up their alley.  I see it at least doing a couple hundred thousand, despite being a late port.

Also, 1.6 million sales is too little for the game of the year!

It would be awesome if they could release demon souls and dark souls for pc...maybe do a special bundle type of deal. I know id buy it just to see them run at 60fps and in 1080p res
