Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Kid Icarus Uprising gets a 40/40 from Famitsu

I don't think everybody really understands Famitsu's rating scheme.
It's not a fleshed out review like you expect from Western magazines.
4 editors are asked to give a score. And if all 4 like the game and give it a 10 each, then the game gets 40 points.

So a 40/40 from Famitsu should really not be taken very seriously.

It still means that the game can't be utter crap.

Wow. Now the hype bar has risen...
Can't wait for other opinions on the game.

Not directly of course.

But they live off advertising and big publishers usually have a lot of advertisments in the magazines, so... You can figure out the rest. ;P

(Good scores make it more likely for game makers to buy ad space...)

Controls are absolutely never a negative in Famitsu reviews.

Maybe they used the Frankenstick, or maybe the game is that good.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Impressive, I made my preorder a while a go so this just add a little bit of hype to it. I hope it sells well in Japan and worldwide.

Pretty impressive, though I doubt it would be 40/40 in the West (when it comes to reviewers), I think Famitsu like scoring it would be around high 20s/low 30s.

I know right? Skyward sword is such a medicore game.

Well... Bayoneta got a perfect score from famitsu.
I hope Kid Ikarus will doing great.

If you say so ;p

Uh, no. You need to play more of it if you think that!
