Forums - Gaming - I think it's safe to say the PS3 is the definitive graphics king for this gen

Good point. In Autovista when you walk around the car and view it, you're viewing a true car model with over a million polygons. In GT5 you can do something similar, but the camera needs a few moments to upscale the image to 1080p when you take a picture. You also not viewing a car with a million polygons...

Ahh, but people will argue....

Nsanity, let's just go play Forza, enough of this idiocracy.

@Sal.Paradise: Autovista and Photomode are two completely different things.

From the Digital Foundry article:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-tech-analysis-forza-motorsport-4?page=3

Autovista:

Another stand-out addition designed to get the most out of Turn 10's modelling work is the introduction of the new Autovista mode. The basic idea of being able to check out high-quality CG versions of the game's vehicles might not sound too exciting (we saw something similar in terms of the basic concept back at the launch of the Xbox 360 in Project Gotham Racing 3) but the execution in Forza Motorsport 4 is really rather special.

Why are you posting that?

Neither photomode nor autovista are representative of gameplay, and are pretty useless for any sort of graphics comparison. They are both post-processed and prettied up modes in each respective game. Believe me, I'd love to use photomode as an indicator of PS3's graphics, because it's mind blowing. But I am not using it because I know it is not a valid comparison.

You can interact, walk around in Autovista, so yeah..its still part of gameplay.

You can put the car in various locations, basically walk but in camera form, get inside the cockpit, zoom in and make a little screw-nut look polished beyond anything you have ever seen. Oh and you can take pictures with your own "character" posing and looking all awesome.

True story.

Autovista looks noticeably better than when you are racing. but like i said it still part of the gameplay experience that allows you to walk and interact.

As is photomode, by that logic.

Photomode adds additional anti-aliasing, special effects as well as increasing the image quality from the games native resolution.

Heavy Rain, God of War 3, and Uncharted 3 are all 720p...hard to call that a graphical king.

I think Forza Motorsport 4 is the best looking game this gen, with Uncharted 3 as #2. I think graphics is really dependant on the game this gen as only late PS3 exclusives are starting to look better then 360 exclusives and multiplatform title.

If you're going to post Forza 4 shots, please don't use a publicity shot used in pre-release articles, especially one that is in photomode. It's the same reason all my shots are from forums users, and the same reason I don't post photomode screenshots from Gran Turismo 5.

Forza also runs at 720p, according to the article I just looked up. However, that's besides the point.

But Autovista is still a part of the game, and Forza 4 looks best, by far, in it.

Below is Forza Motorsport 3, in game, which still looks much much better then Uncharted and Gears could hope to be

An here are the cockpit photos I found. I avoided any night time pictures as I didn't think ti was a fair comparison. Couldn't find anywhere near as many as I would've liked, though. I'll have to search for more after this.

On IGN it got runner up (which means it came second, probably a close second). I'm sure on other websites it came first.

...

Actually IGN gave Cyrsis 1 best graphics over Uncharted 1, and UC3 beat Crysis 2. I don't think the differences in general are that huge if one year one looks better, and the next the other does.

As a man who collected 180+ awards for UC3, I assure you that is NOT the case LOL.

...

Crysis 1 was on the PC against one of the first exclusive games of the PS3. Its not the "next year" it's several years after where Crytek made a PS3/360 version and it just couldn't beat UC3 there. They even made the game less open in contrast to Crysis 1. Difference in general isnt that huge because the predecessors squared off 4 years ago? It's completely different games lmao.

FYI MGS4 got more graphic awards than Crysis Warhead funny enough. Sure it's not a full game, but I still find that "lol" because I disagree with it.

UC2 had little to no contest in 2009 despite KZ2 being there.

God of war 3 slaughtered in 2010, I am willing to allow you to prove me wrong.

For UC3, see 2010.

I accept your opinion, I simply disagree. But I am merely trying to tell you how the world see/saw it. Denial much?

God of War 3 got Runner up in 2010, just like Mass Effect 2....

Since you have it tabulated, how many GOTY awards did ME2 get in 2010 compared to GoW 3?

How about Alan Wake and Heavy Rain (include # of runner ups for both)

2009 Killzone 2 was runner up to UC2, but so was Alan Wake 2.

In E3 2008 Gears of War 2 won best graphics (Over Killzone 2, and Crysis Warhead), but MGS4 won for the year.

Also P.S. Crysis on XBLA and PSN doesn't look that different then Crysis on PC. Crysis > Uncharted, but UC3 > Crysis. Overall, the verdict, your crazy to care about small differences like this. Get a PC, play any game in 1080p, and then hush. Your comparing games that look nearly identical in 720p and sub 720p, when any of these games look much much better on Pc in native 1080p.

Again....ah never mind...

Just to clarify:
We are speaking graphics awards.

"God of War 3 got Runner up in 2010, just like Mass Effect 2...."

No. Feel free to compile a list and I shall share mine :). For now to respond to that sentence:

Spike gave GoW3 Best Graphics of 2010.

Doesn't say much, does it? :')

"Since you have it tabulated, how many GOTY awards did ME2 get in 2010 compared to GoW 3?"
Not nearly as many ;).

Come on bro, work for it! It's my life's work! I am that much of a fanboy. Have you seen all of my UC3 stuff?! I'm known as the UC3 Nuthead here on VGC :D.

"How about Alan Wake and Heavy Rain (include # of runner ups for both)"
Not nearly as many ;). I can tell you this much:

Heavy rain and ME2 are quite close, Alan wake is faaaar distant. GoW3 is faaar ahead. Put some work into it and I will share :). That is if.. you can stop playing ME2.

"2009 Killzone 2 was runner up to UC2, but so was Alan Wake 2."
Alan wake was released in 10 and ..well, let me put it this way:
Can you find over 10 "Best Graphic Overall" awards that have given it to Alan wake? Cheerio! lmao.

"In E3 2008, blablabla, but MGS4 won for the year."

No interest in who shows what. Besides, when you speak "won E3 2008" I bet you are simply refering to one site like IGN. I am speaking internationally and more global => A LOT OF SITES.
We're talking finished products regardless, so I won't dwell on this.

Atleast you can acknowledge MGS4 for 08, UC2 for 09, UC3 for 11: and I do believe you're not naive enough to disgard GoW3 from 10.

Once again: Simply showing what the majority thought.
I have Crysis on the PC and the PS3, thanks for the tip anyway.

Again, bullshots don't prove anything ^

That's the same for PCs.  Their tech isn't on the same gen as the consoles. We're talking about the current console gen. So bringing the PCs into the argument is ludicrous.

Those who do, basically say that the current generation of PC tech is better than the one that was available 5-6 years ago.

Well, no shit Sherlock!

Again. If you are counting it out based on age then you have to draw the line somewhere. Some graphic cards that came out in '07 can easily beat the PS3. I'm sure some from 06 can beat it too. Yet, you choose to discount them while allowing the PS3 for some reason even though it came out a year later at double the price of the 360.

My graphics card from 08 can smoke any of the systems any day... and guess what... the WiiU is going to use a modified version of it. So yeah, my graphics card will remain competitive with the coming generation for the next 7 or so years.
