Forums - Sales - Resident Evil Revelations sales so far..disappointing or not?

I was checking out RE Revelations here on VGChartz and according to the site, the game so far has sold around 470K.Reading a few comments and it seems people are disappointed with these numbers.

I´m not familiar with the handheld market at all, so I know on a home console numbers like that would be terrible for a game like that, but aren´t they reasonable so far for a handheld?...or not?

They're kind of meh. Week 1 was great, but the following drop was a bit heavy. Still, like with most handheld games, it'll be weeks before we know if it's a continuous seller or not. If it is, then this will be remembered as a sold opening. If not... at least the game will break even, considering how the engine was recycled from RE5.

They're not bad, also some people are waiting to get a 3ds lite with 2 slider pads, and then will get Revelations. I am.

"Meh" describes it best, although they are closer to disappointing than good.

What's more interesting about these numbers is the distribution in the various regions. Japan accounts for 0.25m copies, so slightly more than half of the sales. This lines up with the hypothesis that it wasn't piracy that killed the PSP software market in the West, rather gamers in the Western markets simply prefer to play such games at home on a big screen and it doesn't look like they are going to change their habits this generation. Everyone should expect similar sales patterns for future home console games on a handheld.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss should be a good title to watch to see if this hypothesis holds true.

Absolutely not. Golden Abyss is the Mario 3D Land of PSVita.
It's the game that (almost) everyone who has the console bought.
So... wrong comparison.

Considering what a great game it is, the sales are terrible.

I'd definitely say yes. The game released pretty recently and has already outsold the second best selling handheld RE game (Mercenaries 3D) by almost 50%.

And on top of that the producer said that he almost wanted to cancel some of his projects to focus on the next 3DS RE title due to the positive fan reaction (not sure how serious that comment was though). So, the sales simply can't be less than "ok".

Interesting, you got a point here.

For whatever reasons, Japan has moved home consoles to the backseat over the last few years, so they´d be more willing to accept home console like games on handhelds.

If your hypothesis is indeed true, then any handheld that is full of home console like games, can never really hope to have a very healthy software market (healthy sales) in the West.

They're a bit disappointing, especially considering how great a game it is, but Capcom were clearly happy with the sales (want to make another one), so I guess I can't complain too much

They should improve in time since the 3ds is rather new still.
