Forums - Sony - Am I The Only One Who Dislikes The PSVita's Analog Sticks?

Do you like the Vita's analog sticks?

Love them 81 43.55%

Hate them 37 19.89%

So-So 49 26.34%

It only took a few minutes to get used to them, and I love them. It depends on the game you're using them with aswell. Especially with shooters, for example uncharted has slightly stiff aiming (which is fixed with gyroscope controls) whereas Unit 13 feels almost perfect, just as responsive and precise as the most responsive and precise games on PS3.

It's accepted that one guy's opinion isn't the be all, end all. It's not like you are completely unbiased either.

lmao, that's BS and you know it.

He forgotten to add "as long as that opinion isn't bashing Nintendo because then it's bannable offence" ;)

They're about as good as it's going to get on a handheld without making the device impractical. Sure the shorter radius takes some getting used to, but it is more sensitive than a controller stick which just means more precise input is required assuming the game being played doesn't have some form of aim assist.

About the only thing I'd change would be the shape of the disk since I prefer concave over convex and there are already snap on pads available for that.

Is there anything else we can hate on?
The screen? Im sure theres something we could come up with. Too bright? Dark spots? Feels not delicate enugh?

I tried them at Gamestop and I was surprised by how small they were. Expected bigger buttons as well. Super Stardust will be my first game so I'll likely get used to them in no time, though.

I think they are great, yes it takes some time to get used to them but when you have finally done that there is nothing else on the handheld front that beats it. Miles better then the psp one.

Have to agree with this. They feel small but I can't imagine them getting any bigger.

I am glad someone made a topic about this. I absolutely hate the sticks, for a lot of reasons:
1. The throw is entirely too small. There simply isn't enough room to move the sticks around comfortably, and the problem is made worse with lazy software like Uncharted. I'm sorry, but aiming in Uncharted without the tilt assist is god awful. I understand that other games control better, but the point stands.

2. The sticks themselves are way, way too small. Looking at the Vita in promotional material doesn't accurately convey just how small these things are. I was shocked when I first got my hands on the device and I don't think I'll ever get used to it.

3. The design is convex instead of concave. If you're going to go convex, give us a little nub for grip like on the Wii's Classic Controller Pro. Either that, or go concave. There's no excuse for slippage.

 4. The placement is terrible. With how huge Vita is, you'd think they could have laid the controls out a little better. When I try to hit up on the left stick I often find myself hitting d-pad down, just like accidentally hitting X when trying to move the right stick up.

5. They stick out too far, which takes the already small hope I had of fitting the device in my pocket (due to its size) away. I am terrified of those things getting caught on something or breaking.

So yes, the Vita sticks are absolutely awful in my book. I'll take the Circle Pad any day of the week. I am hoping the sticks are addressed if Vita gets a redesign, because that would make me want one a lot more. I really want to play Wipeout but not with those terrible stick.
