He would propose a constitutional amendment that would clearly establish what is and isn't marriagable and so simply take the ability for individual states to establish marriage law away from them., though it's only wishful thinking on his end, since such an amendment would proverbially explode in the hangar. Even if we took the states' rights people out of the picture, the progressive lobby would murder the amendment quicker than quick, but with the states' rights trampling, it would never work either.

But one does wonder when there will be enough political consensus in this country to ever pass another constitutional amendment under the current system.

the problem is that we're talking about gay marriage, birth control, and abortion while the country is about to collapse in debt and buried in pointless wars while trying to start new ones. We need to talk about the economy and wars, all the other stuff needs to go on the back burner because none of that matters if the government collapses.

Social issues are easier to take clear stances on. Few enough people are willing to take hard-and-fast stances on matters of the economy or the national debt or wars, because while small government seems like a nice idea and i would theoretically enjoy watching the reactions to an American-style "shock therapy," one needs to be flexible when dealing with the economy and with foreign policy, and willing to take advantage of all your tools at your disposal. With social issues, it's very clean-cut and easy to say solid things that people understand.

I don't really care for the "it happens in nature" argument myself. Humans could be the only species engaging in homosexual acts that it wouldn't make it wrong. I know from personal experience that I didn't "artificially" choose to be attracted to men.

I do take offense to you using rapists and murderers in a discution about homosexuality as a backhanded way of associating gays with people who aren't socially functionnal. The LGBT community bring as much to society as straight people do and comparing them to killers is rather insulting.
