Oh, SMG looks great, no doubt about it, and I agree that art direction is king! While having said that, I can imagine the new systems will improve on physics and AI - and that'll definitely improve the games coming out on those systems... And what I'm fearing is that Wii U will be left out in the cold by 3rd party support because of the inferior specs, leading to lower sales...

That is indeed a possibility, but you can also look at it from another perspective.

Given that Msoft and Sony's consoles will be (a lot) more powerful, and also seeing that developers/publishers don't seem to be able to learn from the past, we will see this gen a repetition of what happened last gen with devs/publishers spending a lot of resources trying to make the best looking game to sell it.

Even with better tools (UE4 seems to go that way), that will mean higher costs. Even with game prices goig up, they will need bigger sales to make that money back. If a port/version of those games for WiiU is a viable option, they may have no option but to launch them on WiiU aswell.

But for that to happen, game development for all platforms must be the same, something that seems likely, and the sales for those games on WiiU must warrant to continue doing it.

Well, I'm pretty sure that we'll see ports on the Wii U from the PS720; they question is though, will they be gimped version like those we saw on Wii? Sure, they'll be in HD this time around, but how will it effect the gameplay? I can live with 720/30FPS as long as the gameplay is intact - no worries - but if the actual gameplay is gimped, noone's gonna buy these ports for the Wii U. People will instead buy a PS720, and 3rd parties will eventually catch on to this fact and stop porting over games...

Thing is.. if THATS how a 'last gen' system looks when PS720 is released.. I'm gonna be quite content with my choice anyway :P just because something newer comes out, it dosn't make the fact that something looks good less true.

Art direction is king, SMG2 looks fantastic at times.. as does Halo4, they play in different leagues but they both look visually impressive.

Could be the case, I want that ND about the 3rd party lineup like now before i predict about the support going forward. If the game engines are going to be heavily physics and AI driven then the WiiU is prob. going to be left behind.
What will eventually happen though (what i think) is at some point developers are going to have so much horse-power that they will be stumped what to do with it.
Unreal engine 4 sounded adaptable when they unveiled it. Meaning that as long as the GPU is powerfull enough to push polygons you could disable alot of the heavy stuff and still run the same scene.. that is, a game can run on all platforms on a optimized version of the engine with the same assets with no extra work from the developer.
There should be no reason not to release stuff on everything at that point. If that is the case, that WiiU can run that engine, why wouldn't you release the content on that system too?

Yeah, it sounded as if EU4 would be extremely scalable; they said it would work on smartphones. Then SURELY it must be able to run on Wii U?! As long as the graphics are scaled back, I have no problems buying a port to Wii U - but if they're starting to gimp that port, take away gameplay, then I'm just gonna get the game on PC. And I think that if a lot of ports are gimped, many people with either not buy the games, or buy another system for those said games - which in the end will mean Wii U will be without 3rd party support anyways...

How can the gameplay be gimped? Do you mean AI, physics and nº of objects/enemies on screen?

Personally, I don't expect a huge jump in AI like some believe. It's far too expensive and uses too many resources. It will be better but your team mates will still look dumb sometimes as well as the enemies. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Physics aren't a selling point. If they were, Nvidia cards with its Physx would dominate over AMD cards without it and both sell well. It's a nice plus but not a deal breaker. Besides even if WiiU's CPU is weaker, it doesn't mean that it won't be able to do it.

Objects/enemies on screen. Well yes, the forest will have less trees which will have less branchs. It may not look as pretty, but it doesn't have to look bad. And if there are less enemies, you can make them harder to kill to compensate.

Yeah, you have good points, I must admit! But I'm still worried PS720 will get superior 3rd party support just because of all the things they'll be able to do, and Wii U can't... I really hope your right; I wanna play most of my games in my couch, not in my chair infront of my PC...

I'm not saying that every game will be ported to WiiU, or even that it will be possible to do it (in 3 or 4 years when developers use the Nextbox/PS4 power to their limit), I'm just saying that this time the ports will be easier and cheaper to do because the architecture will be similar (1 CPU with multiple cores and 1 modern GPU) meaning that if the sales on WiiU are good, devs will continue to bring their games on the platform.

But then again, they have to launch the games on WiiU first to see if they sell or not, something that I fear not every publisher will do (Bethesda, for example). And no, launch ports aren't a good measure for the future sales.

Yeah, I've never understood how certain publishers just ignore Nintendo... I understand why they skipped Wii, but Wii U should be a different story - as you say! If Wii U gets good ports I can see WIi U becoming the best selling system this gen; if it gets shitty ports it'll be dead last

Imagine F-Zero GC in HD?!

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

I think that, as already has been mentioned here many times, the worst case scenario for WiiU is the GC one, decent 3rd party support and awesome first party...i actually think Nintendo fans should be very excited with WiiU!!!
