Something else I dislike: when you need to win a fight to progress... only to have your character get beaten according to the storyline.

Oh yes I forgot that one. I had to do the Joker fight over so many times in Batman AC only to lose by a collapsing ceiling afterwards.

Which brings me to another point, taking away all your options and forcing you into a style you have not been using in the rest of the game. That Joker fight was as bad as the boss fights in Deus Ex HR.

Not having a sense of accomplishment. A lot games it seems as though I'm just dotting the i's and crossing the t's just to do it. I like having to get better at later stages of the game to proceed.

1) Points of no return.
2) Unskippable cutscenes.
3) Slow screentexts.
4) Characters talking during gameplay which slows the game down, because the scripted sequence needs to be finished before you can continue through the next door or whatever. A supposedly clever way to avoid a cutscene and increase the immersion, but ultimately it's more annoying than an actual cutscene.
5) Convoluted control schemes.
6) Story being put in front of gameplay (exception: visual novels).
7) Style over substance.
8) Games telling you the obvious.
9) Long tutorials.
10) Checkpoints and infinite lives being used to not have to bother with proper level design and balance.

You have made a complete list. I'll just bold the most annoying ones imo.

Escort quests in MMORPGs.

Are there any games in which you do like escort quests?
(Excluding games like ico, enslaved where it is an essential plot point and actually works)

A depressing proportion of enthusiast gamers.

I kind of liked it in Resident Evil 4 too. It helped that Ashley was smart enough to duck and hide, and stayed out of the way during boss fights.

Developers trying to appeal to a broader audience. I don't have a problem with this belief, but when a developer says this, they're usually just copying Call of Duty, Gears of War, Uncharted, or some other well-respected title.

Well I hope you don't buy Assassin's Creed games either.
