Forums - Gaming - Yours biggest pet peeve about games

What TruckO said is pretty much my biggest pet peeve as well.

But to add something into the thread, developers thinking that someone is going to charge them money for every button they leave unassigned also somewhat annoys me. Just because you have the option of making a convoluted control scheme doesn't mean your game necessarily warrants one. (Not that I'm a fan of oversimplification)

Adding things to a game that don't make the game better. Even the best of games have them.

*Looks at Mother 3's musical combos*

Games designed by a western Developer... complete lack of Video game in there.

That sounds a bit unfair. I'm a fan of Japanese games, but Westerners have come up with some good stuff.

When you are playing an FPS look down.... and nothing. I HATE it, it's like being slapped in the face with a sign saying ''You are just a camera! Your character doesn't exist in this world!''. It honestly ruins my enjoyment of a game. I got so frustrated playing half life 2 where it's meant to be this immersive experience and instead it is the complete opposite. Pick something up? It floats! Drive a car? Wheel turns itself! Walk past a mirror? Nothing! Having to do some mild jumping and want an idea of where you are standing? NO! You are a floating camera!

All FPS games should have Mirror's Edge style immersion. I want my character to have a body. When I pick things up I don't want them to float, I want to see a hand holding the object. Oh and when I look down I don't want to only be able to see my legs/feet. I don't know what world developers live in but when I look down I can see from just below my collarbone down.

I will stop there as otherwise I will write the longest post in Vgchartz history full of angry rants about collectibles that have no purpose and no way to track which area of the game they are missing from, none customisable buttons and so on.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

On Disc DLC, pay to unlock

Movie Games, Rush to get out intime for the release of the movies, story never matches the movies, and sucks in general.

Good games get lack of DLC

A new version of a game every year

Having to wait until the end of the year to play most (if not all) of the year's AAA titles.

Worst offender: 2011

Constantly being told that a game is still in development, but there are no new details at this time.

Worst offender: The Last Guardian

Constantly being told in-game that my health is low or that the batteries in my controller are dying.

Worst offender: Fi (Skyward Sword)

1. Not being able to save anywhere. I hate it when a game tells me, all progress from previous check point will be lost if you quit now. Well where was that previous check point, where will I end up when I continue next time.
Recent offender: Batman AC

2. Sticky cover, nothing as frustrating as trying to doge and sticking to a wall instead right next to a grenade.
Recent offender: Uncharted 3

3. Context sensitive buttons that don't do what you expect. Especially in combination with 2. I want to jump out of the way, not crouch into cover.
Recent offender: Batman AC

4. A camera that you can't control or keeps doing it's own thing working against you.
Recent offender: Zelda SS, Dark souls

5. Directional controls changing based on camera view. Sometimes I wish I could control the character from the characters point of view again instead of figuring out what 2D movement to apply to a weird diagonal angle view from above or below.
Recent offenders: Zelda SS, Dark souls

6. Bad UI design.
Recent offenders: Most games have their problems but Skyrim stands out in the ridiculous amount of button presses you need to switch between spells and abilities in combat.

7. Unskippable drawn out heavily scripted boss battles, made worse with unskippable text and cut scenes
Recent offender: Zelda SS, I quit the game at Thunderhead.

8. Repeating / stating the obvious.
Recent offender: Zelda SS, I don't care that a red rupee is worth 20.

9. Long load times on failure. I don't mind hard games but I do mind having to wait for the entire level to reload that was already in memory.
Recent offender: Batman AC, wait to load the "haha you failed" cut scene, then wait to load the same level again, thanks.

10. Forcing you forward by triggering a cut scene which becomes the checkpoint, making it impossible to prepare for the fight ahead or turn back until you're ready.
Recent offender: The Witcher 2

Something else I dislike: when you need to win a fight to progress... only to have your character get beaten according to the storyline.
