Forums - Sony - Launch Week - zero

This isn't about sales number. Leave that argument for another thread.

This is about Sony creating a week 0 sales.

Technically, week 1 would be the first week that the hardware is available in stores for purchase.

Does it even make sense to have a week 0? Doesn't it just push the release date 1 week ahead and so, week 0 would actually mean week 1, week 1 = week 2?

Now, let's suppose we let Sony slide and allow week 0.

What's stopping others to launch week -1, week -2, etc?

I do not remember. Attoyou, are you saying the Saturn did this as well?

I thought it Was a great idea on Sony's part to put the games out a week early. I hope Nintendo does the same thing! Especially if the price is high. Give people a chance to buy more. Plus in that week gamers can show off what they got, hopefully exciting others.

"In early 1995, Sega of America president Tom Kalinske announced that the Saturn would launch in the U.S. on "Saturnday", (Saturday) September 2, 1995.[15] This date was greatly anticipated by gamers and the media. It also allowed Sony to announce that the PlayStation release date would be one week later on September 9, 1995.[16] However, on May 11, 1995, at the first Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Kalinske announced that the "Saturnday" date was a ruse and that the system was being released nationwide by four select retailers (Toys "R" Us, Babbage's, Software Etc. and Electronics Boutique[17]) immediately.[18] It appeared that Sega had a real opportunity to take a commanding 4-month lead in the 32-bit race by beating the PlayStation to the market"

-4 Months. Its already been done, launching before the launch.

Several games have had Week 0 launches before, although it was mostly because of broken street dates.

You either count it as Week 1 and show that it had a disappointing launch but massive increase in Week 2, or count it as Week 0 followed by a more impressive launch but larger fall afterwards. I don't see the big deal either way personally, but I think the fact that people like to use that number and twist it to suit their bias is why certain people stress for a Week 0.

Logically unless you are Nintendo troll there's no point in counting week 0 as week 1.

It was limited to one out of two SKUs with more expensive no value added bundle and sold only in USA/Canada.

It was just a clever way of getting the people who wanted a Vita first to pay more for that exclusivity. Pretty much all consumer electronics are based on a model similiar to this, it surprises me more consoles haven't done it tbh.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
