a very good read about the PS Vita in Spiegel Online. Unfortunately in German:

Really good conclusion that essentially says what Sonys current gen problem is overall (imo), which maybe someone can translate:

Not the best translation but I think it is basically saying its a great piece of kit and a fine last hurrah before mobiles (phone and tablets) finally kill of handhelds.

Thanks. It is actually lauding Sony for trying to attempt a dedicated gaming handheld and that it is a great piece of technology, BUT does not offer a compelling reason for purchase.

It then states that the device was created by ENGINEERS, and that it will be hard thus to fill it with life.

That to me means it is the OPPOSITE of what the iPad/ iPhone is, as they were NOT created by engineers but by user / marketing specialists. ANd that is the reason why the Vita will ultimately fail.

I'm still very doubtful of this. Apple is mostly so very successful because of brand recognition. Absolutely no reason that Sony/Nintendo cannot exploit this.

You could argue that the future Sony handhelds won't be "pure games console(s)", but the Vita does other stuff too. The main purpose is just gaming. As will be the case for future handhelds. People love buying stuff. Why the hell would people go so ape shit over the new Iphone every year considering that it costs so much and is just slightly revised.

Wrong, they're made by Slave workers who know nothing about what they are doing and how the stuff works

is this iShit to replace handhelds (and even laptops) nonsense ever going to stop!? i mean they have no Mario or Pokemon, GT of God of War and most importantly NO BUTTONS so the chance is zero

i still believe that handhelds can counterattack the tablets with a simple app store and some media updates



don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Do you really think mobiles will kill off handhelds though? Lets be honest here, I am a massive gamer and I have one of the most powerfull smartphones on the planet right now. I have never downloaded a game for it and I never will. I have tried tonnes of demos on the phone like fruit ninja and even dead space but I deleted them instantly. You will NEVER get games with the production values of Uncharted: Golden abyss on a phone with touch controls only, it just isnt possible. I commute to work every day and it is a joy to play Uncharted on my journey every morning and evening.

The funny thing is I use my smart phone for everything else except games and thats where my VITA comes in.
