Forums - Sony - Sony UK encouraged by Vita’s launch, much stock available

Gaming Everything

We shouldn’t judge the success of the PlayStation Vita on one day of sales. It’ll be more interesting to see how it performs in the longrun.

Still, Sony Computer Entertainment UK managing director Fergal Gara was encouraged by the system’s launch in Europe last night:

“First of all, the excitement of a midnight console launch was great to see – it’s my first time seeing that first-hand, on this side of the fence. It was fantastic to see that enthusiasm.

“We are in a new world, of course, where early sales don’t only come from queuing at midnight, and there are a hell of a lot of pre-orders shipping today, which have been ordered either through retailers or online specialists, so judging the numbers at this stage is very hard. But people are coming through with re-orders, which is always exciting to see.”

Those who are considering purchase the new handheld won’t have to worry about supply. Gara believes that Sony has enough systems in stock to satisfy demand.

Gara said:

“We’ve got enough to satisfy demand; it depends how big those re-orders are and how the week plays out. We’re seeing encouraging signs, but it’s very, very early.”

sounds like they are preparing for a weak opening

Like he could have said anything else

But I could be wrong

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

hmmmm.....

But everyone will for a fact.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I doubt anyone will judge it off one day... if we had judged it in Japan off one day we would have said it was a big success.

I seem to recall people saying it failed after the early JP sales no? Either way, saying it's a success or a failure IMO shouldn't be allowed after 1 day or better yet 1 week.

Maybe it's just me but I feel that saying whether something is a success or failure should be banned until the thing is withdrawn from the market then it can be compared to other items then we can decide whether or not it's a failure.

calling something a failing after 1 day, 1 week or whatever is a stupid idea, as Kow says failure/success is transient, so jumping that bandwagon from failure to success one week is very annoying (to me at least).

I predict that if the numbers at the end of the week are good, people will start calling it a success and blah blah blah.
Long story short, people just need to settle down.

Just ordered mine from HK. A US model though. If Amazon UK doesn't want my Aussie money, so be it. Though at those prices I don't expect the UK to have a strong launch. If launch numbers are weak even in America where the device is pretty damn cheap compared to the rest of the world, Sony's future won't be too bright.

see comments above.

Yes, saying it should be banned was being sensationalist.

The fun...I suppose, I guess is the main point of this website/forums in general but doesn't stop it from being annoying.

1 week does not count - 2nd week coudl be tricky - 3rd week shoudl be stable - by teh 5th week we will know if it does need a price cut or not. in a year time we can judge a failure or a success.
